Yesterday we reported that Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel will delay its planned December 6th reopening and that Downtown Disney changes were in discussion. Today we know what those changes will entail. Most of the operations adjustments discussed below will roll out on December 7th.
DOWNTOWN DISNEY DINING RESTRICTIONS
Beginning Monday, all table service dining will be halted at the Disneyland Resort. Restaurants which offer take-out will be able to sell those items if they wish, but all food and beverage must be consumed outside the Disneyland Resort.
As a result, all Disney-operated restaurants and quick-serve will close. This includes Carthay Circle, Award Weiners, Taste Pilots, Fiddler, Fifer & Practical Café, and outdoor vending carts.
However, retail locations that also sell food items, such as Marcelines and Trolley Treats, will remain open.
Dining reservations will be automatically canceled beginning on Monday.
DOWNTOWN DISNEY RETAIL UPDATE
Most retail locations will continue to operate under the new state rules, which mandate retail capacity of 20% or less. Due to the lower store capacity, and to increase the opportunities for guests to shop with fewer lines, additional retail locations are being evaluated for reopening in the near future.
Notably, Gone Hollywood in Disney’s California Adventure has been decorated for Christmas and appears ready to reopen.
Disney could substantially increase their shopping capacity by reopening Main Steet USA as they did Buena Vista Street. We should know more about whether they will take that step or not very soon.
Disneyland Resort President, Ken Potrock, sent the following message to cast today:
While Downtown Disney is remaining open, the loss of dining will result in the furlough of approximately 350 cast members.
