As we mentioned last week, SeaWorld received permission to reopen in a limited capacity as a zoo (no rides). Now we have a date when the park will open and it’s THIS WEEK! Starting this Friday, August 28, SeaWorld San Diego will reopen as an outdoor “zoo” and BBQ experience.
SeaWorld San Diego has been closed since late March, and the new “Zoo” Days will be the first time the park has allowed guests in months. In compliance with the safety guidelines for zoos, SeaWorld (which is a licensed, permitted and accredited zoo) will operate with enhanced safety protocols for cleaning and sanitizing, physical distancing, face covering requirements, and temperature screenings. The experience is limited capacity and will run on select days with prior reservations. SeaWorld’s Zoo Days will run Fridays through Sundays, August 28-September 27, plus Labor Day, from 11:00 a.m.-7:00 p.m.
Every ticket includes park entry, access to outdoor animal exhibits, plus a lanyard for chef-created BBQ and paired craft beer offerings. However, there will be no rides and most indoor experiences will remain closed. You can look forward to food items like specialty beer-infused BBQ Brisket Sliders, Shrimp Tacos, Grilled Fish, Impossible Burgers, German Bratwurst and more. Guests can enjoy their visit with two meals using their allotted lanyard; adults receive 6 punches on their lanyard, and children ages 3-9 will get 4 punches. Punches include any food or beverage at restaurants— including alcoholic beverages for adults. Water, fountain and non-alcoholic beverages are ½ a punch – all other items are a full punch. Strangely, there’s a two-hour minimum between the two allowed meals (per lanyard), but in the event you use your punches sooner than anticipated, more lanyards are available for purchase.
After enjoying some delicious BBQ, you’re free to explore SeaWorld’s 40 acres and enjoy their open-air outdoor animal viewing exhibits, including Orcas, Bamboo Sharks, Stingray, SeaLions, Otters, Penguins, Dolphins, Flamingos, and more. Additionally, the Dolphin, Sea Lion and Orca Encounter educational presentations will be updated for socially distanced viewing. And if you’re looking for something more interactive, there are additional tickets for the Dolphin Encounter (reservations required), Sea Lion Feeding, and Ray Feeding available for purchase.
Our partners at Get Away Today are offering tickets to Zoo Days: Bayside BBQ & Brews at a discount (HERE), as they don’t charge a service fee (though tax still applies). [$74.99 for Adults (ages 10+), $64.99 for Children (ages 3-9)]
If you’re a Pass Member or a Fun Card Holder, there’s some good news for you. You can purchase tickets and make reservations for over 50% off. Passholders should buy their tickets directly from SeaWorld.
