In an announcement from Disney earlier today, they will be rebranding its three existing TV studios and removing the Fox name from two of them. During this process, there will be no leadership changes or layoffs.
Nearly a year and a half after Disney acquired 20th Century Fox Television and Fox 21 TV Studios, 20th Century Fox Television will now be known as 20th Television. Meanwhile, ABC Studios and ABC Signature will collectively become ABC Signature, and Fox 21 Television Studios has been renamed Touchstone Television. Disney dropped the “Fox” from its acquired film studios, 20th Century Fox and Fox Searchlight, back in January.
The decision to remove “Fox” from two of the studios’ names was part of the larger $71.3 billion deal between Disney and 21st Century Fox.
Without further ado, let’s look at the new animated end title cards for all three brands that you’ll soon be viewing after some of your favorite shows:
Twentieth Television
ABC Signature
Touchstone Television
Hello Again
If the name Touchstone Television sounds familiar, that’s because Disney produced shows under that TV brand, which evolved into ABC Studios in 2007.
Some of the shows produced under the Touchstone Television label included “The Golden Girls,” “Blossom,” “Home Improvement,” “Desperate Housewives,” “LOST,” “Grey’s Anatomy,” “Criminal Minds,” “Ghost Whisperer,” and “Scrubs.”
It should be noted that the first few seasons of some of these shows exhibited the Touchstone Television logo before it was retired, with the ABC Studios logo being displayed in later seasons.
“Our new studio names and logos mark a new day for ABC Signature, 20th Television and Touchstone Television while honoring their rich histories and the creative power of The Walt Disney Company,” Disney Television Studios president Craig Hunegs said in a statement Monday. “Dana and I could not be more pleased with the first year of our three studios together as part of Disney Television Studios and we believe that with our powerhouse talent roster and exceptional studio teams, the best is yet to come.”
Bert Salke will oversee Touchstone Television. Carolyn Cassidy will continue to lead 20th Television.
Moving Into The Next Phase
The changes to the studios’ branding are effective immediately, although each studio’s new name and logo may not be fully integrated into their branding until the end of 2020. All new episodes produced by 20th TV, ABC Signature and Touchstone Television will be tagged with the new animated logo cards in the end titles, while episodes already in the library will display the old animated logo cards.
Disney’s ABC Signature, 20th Television and Touchstone Television produce hits like “This Is Us,” “9-1-1,” “American Horror Story,” “Queen of the South,” “American Dad,” “Barkskins,” “grown-ish” and “Little Fires Everywhere,” among many other series. Combined, the three rebranded studios recently earned 47 Emmy nominations combined.
