Fans of Square-Enix’s magical series, Kingdom Hearts, will be excited to hear another title is on the way: Melody of Memory! But, this title will not be like the Kingdom Hearts you know and love. Unlike its predecessors, which are action-RPGs, this new title is categorized as a rhythm-action game. With such a memorable soundtrack from composer Yoko Shimomura, it is not hard to imagine Kingdom Hearts making that leap.

Gameplay

This isn’t Square-Enix’s first foray in the rhythm-action genre, as those who played the Final Fantasy Theatrhythm series will tell you. Several elements from that series are present in this new title. In fact, there are more similarities than not (they reused the fonts, for example). The biggest being the games’ three styles of levels: attempting to reach distance goal, a boss fight, and a cinematic level.

However, one of the biggest differences (or at least one that we can see from the trailer) is the way the player views the track. Rather than see the next attack or action coming from the side of the screen, it seems that the objectives (enemies/targets/etc.) appear along a track.

Melody of Memory promises over 140 tracks (both from the Kingdom Hearts series as well as classic Disney movies) for gamers to dive into. In addition to single-player mode, there is also an online multiplayer Versus mode.

When and How Can I Play This?

All we know about Kingdom Hearts: Melody of Memory’s release date is that it is scheduled to release worldwide for some time in 2020. We also know, however, that the title will be playable on the PlayStation 4, the Nintendo Switch (a first for the series!), and the Xbox One.
