Legoland Florida is the first major theme park to reopen to the general public in Florida. The park initially announced its closure in response to the global health crisis after Universal Orlando and Walt Disney World, Legoland closed on March 16, 2020. Today, Legoland reopens ahead of both Universal Orlando and Walt Disney World. Let’s take a look at how the theme park is operating in challenging times.

Increased Safety Measures

The safety measures that have been discussed for all Florida theme parks are evident.  Temperature checks, reduced ride capacity, markings for social distancing, as well as reduced capacity in the park, restaurants and stores.

Masks are encouraged, but not required. The vast majority of guests were not wearing masks. If parks are serious about masks, it looks like they’ll need to require them.

Some additional safety measures include an empty parking space between cars, height checks at the front gate, and added ‘grab and go’ dining options., Legoland Florida Reopens – Our Opening Day Thoughts!, Legoland Florida Reopens – Our Opening Day Thoughts!

The park opened with a song and dance about safety precautions – literally!

Around the Park

“No seating” signs are taped on the benches where they don’t want guests sitting.  We opted to go ahead an eat inside since we were the only ones there.

The Park Was Empty!

Social distancing has not been a problem. While we brought masks with us, we didn’t feel the need to use them very often as there were very few guests there and no crowding at all. , Legoland Florida Reopens – Our Opening Day Thoughts!, Legoland Florida Reopens – Our Opening Day Thoughts!

Ride Procedure Changes

Rides maintained social distancing by leaving empty seats or rows. Cleaning is performed routinely not only on the ride vehicles, but also the queue, railings, etc.

We had the full vehicle to ourselves.

My Thoughts On Reopening

I was concerned about the lack of masks and not being required, due to the lack of guests I didn’t feel uncomfortable. Had it been more crowded, I would have been sporting my mask and would have been uncomfortable if other guests weren’t wearing them as well. All staff had masks and some had face shields.

But overall, the park felt extra clean and safe. Though, you may need to constantly remind your child not to touch things and provide lots of hand sanitizer, as I did.
