The Force will be strong this coming Star Wars Day. On May 4, an 8-episode docuseries on the making of Disney’s breakout hit The Mandalorian is coming to Disney+. Disney Gallery: The Mandalorian will explore Disney’s first live-action Star Wars television show through interviews, never-before-seen footage, and roundtable conversations hosted by executive producer Jon Favreau, Disney said Wednesday.

“Disney Gallery: The Mandalorian is an opportunity for fans of the show to take a look inside and get to see a different perspective, and perhaps a greater understanding, of how The Mandalorian came together and some of the incredibly talented contributors throughout Season 1,” Favreau said in a statement. “We had a great experience making the show and we’re looking forward to sharing it with you.”

Topics will include the filmmaking process, the legacy of George Lucas’ Star Wars, how the cast brought the characters to life, the series’ groundbreaking technology, the artistry behind the show’s practical models, effects, and creatures, plus the creative influences, the iconic score, and connections to Star Wars characters and props from across the galaxy.

With Disney halting production of its live-action projects due to concern over the world health situation, the new docuseries will help Disney fill its streamer with new content.

Star Wars Day

Star Wars Day started as an online celebration by fans to celebrate Star Wars. May 4 was chosen for the pun on the phrase “May the Force be with you” as “May the Fourth be with you.” Even though the date was never officially declared by Lucasfilm or The Walt Disney Company, the companies have embraced it as the franchise’s annual celebration.
