Today marks the first day of Disneyland’s closure due to Coronavirus concerns. The Disney Parks in Asia have been closed for some time now, and now Walt Disney World and Disneyland Paris are headed towards shutdown beginning Monday. You can read more about the closure of all the Disney parks here:

The Aftermath – ALL Disney Parks Closed

Although the closures are meant to avoid spreading the virus, many Disneyland and Walt Disney World regulars are concerned about what this unexpected shutdown means for their passes. Here’s what you need to know.

Disneyland AP Update

The Disneyland Resort parks will be closed starting today (March 14th) through the end of the month, the Hotels of the Disneyland Resort will remain open through the 16th. Downtown Disney will continue with normal operating hours for the time being.

So, what does all of this mean for Disneyland Annual Pass Holders? Passport expiration dates will be extended based on the length of the closure (see Disney statement below). The new extended date will be displayed in the AP’s account before the parks are ready for visiting again. Additionally, APs on the monthly payment plan will continue making current payments as usual, but they will not be required to make payments during their pass extension period.

Any Flex Pass reservations during the closure period will be canceled without a penalty.

Because Disneyland offers several different tiers of passes, each with varying amounts of entry access, we’re interested to see how that translates into an extension once the parks reopen. We will have more info to share with you as soon as it’s available.

The extension procedure for APs over on the East Coast is much simpler than Disneyland’s. The resort will extend all active WDW APs by the number of days the parks are closed. Passes that are up for renewal during the closure period will have extra time to renew once the parks are open again. And similarly to Disneyland, WDW will continue to charge monthly payment plans as usual, but will not charge for the extra days acquired due to the extension.

Our Thoughts

This is an unprecedented period in Disney history. There has never been a time when all of the Disney Parks worldwide (along with the Disney Cruise Line) have been closed for a significant length of time. Disney’s AP terms of service are clear that they don’t need to compensate you for disruptions in park service. So, they are going above and beyond by providing extensions to passes.

We all signed the dotted line on our AP contracts that we understood and acknowledged that “Parks, services, entertainment and attractions may change operating hours, close temporarily, or may otherwise change or be discontinued without notice and without liability.”

We are already looking forward to returning to our Happiest and Most Magical Places on Earth.
