The New York Toy Fair 2020 took place this week and we are here to highlight some of the best playthings based on Disney characters (except Baby Yoda – you’ll find his stuff, and other Star Wars toys, HERE). While most of these toys are designed with the younger ones in mind, we think that everyone will get a kick out of them. After all, Walt Disney said “Adults are just kids grown up, anyway.” Let’s take a look!
Disney Princess Toys
Hasbro’s Style Series of dolls ($24.99 each) showcases many of our favorite princesses in contemporary fashion with modern hairstyles. Included in the series are Ariel, Aurora, Belle, Jasmine, Mulan, and Rapunzel. These dolls are available now at most mass retailers.
The Princess Ballet dolls ($24.99 each), available now on shopDisney and at Disney Stores, have multiple points of articulation to allow their Highnesses to perform ballet poses. Belle, Cinderella, Jasmine, and Rapunzel come with two ballet-inspired outfits, two accessories, a doll hairbrush, and an animal companion.
LEGO’s Storybook Adventures ($19.99 each) features Ariel, Belle, or Mulan. The entire playset is contained within a book-shaped shell. These are available now at mass retailers.
Disney Villains Toys
Hades and Maleficent have been reimagined as Funko POP! figures along with their very own thrones ($28.99 each). These two are available now on Amazon and FYE. I could totally see Maleficent on my shelf in the near future…
This Funko POP! figure may not have her own throne, but what she lacks in furniture she makes up for in glitter. Diamond Glitter Ursula ($14.50) is available to pre-order now from Hot Topic. She is expected to ship between April 20 and May 1.
Frozen 2 Toys
These two Limited Edition dolls of Snow Queen Elsa and Queen Anna ($119.95 each) will be available from shopDisney and at Disney Stores on March 14, 2020. With an edition size of 8,500 for Elsa and 8,000 for Anna, you won’t want to sleep on these toys if you’re interested in them. Both dolls have detailed outfits decorated with gemstones, as well as multiple points of articulation of posing (if you choose to take them out of their boxes).
Jakks Pacific created this Light-Up Water Nokk ($49.99). Not only does it light-up (with sound) as its name suggests, the creature is also articulated and comes with a saddle that fits an Elsa doll.
The Fire Spirit’s Snowy Snack ($14.99), featuring Bruni, is an interactive toy created by Hasbro. When you pet the salamander’s back, he emits a pink glow to emulate fire. Feed him the little plastic snowflakes included with the toy and Bruni changes from pink to a cool blue.
Live-Action Mulan Toys
With the NERF Warrior Bow ($29.99), we finally have a NERF toy targeted towards girls that isn’t pink, purple, or covered in flowers and jewels. This toy is available now on Amazon.
Two doll sets are currently available at mass retailers, courtesy of Hasbro. The first set ($49.99) includes two dolls, Mulan and Xianniang (a character new to the live-action version). The second set ($39.99) only has one doll, Mulan, but also includes an additional outfit for her.
Soul Toys
Hailing from Disney-Pixar’s upcoming film Soul, we have a Funko POP! figure of Joe in his corruptible mortal state as well as his soul form ($10.99 each). Available June 15, 2020, from Amazon and FYE.
Toy Story Toys
Thinkway will release three new Toy Story toys exclusively at Walmart on April 20. The first toy is the Sheriff Woody Deluxe Pull-String Action Figure. As the name suggests, pulling the string on his back will cause Woody to say one of over 30 different phrases. He has a soft, 16-inch tall, ragdoll body with sculpted head, hands, boots, and a removable hat.
The Buzz Lightyear Deluxe Space Ranger Talking Action Figure is approximately 12 inches tall with an articulated neck, waist, shoulders, and wrists. Buzz’s helmet can also be opened or closed. Pressing the chest buttons will cause him to say one of one 30 phrases as well as elicit sound effects. And just like the movies, a push of the circular red button on his chest pops out his wings.
This 14-inch tall Cowgirl Jessie Deluxe Talking Action Figure, like her Woody counterpart, has a soft doll body with sculpted head, hands, boots, and hat. She also has the same pull-string feature as Woody as well as a removable hat.
These Woody, Buzz, and Jessie Action Figures come bundled with a surprise bag containing a Toy Story 4 character in a cutesy art-style.
Marvel Toys
Thanks to Marvel and Funko, we have more POP! figures of heroes than you can shake an Infinity Gauntlet at.
Disney Jr. Toys
This Mickey Musical Express Train Set ($19.99) by Just Play is inspired by Mickey Mouse Clubhouse Adventures. Kids can piece the interconnecting track pieces together and arrange the Mickey-themed arch and directional sign along the route. The real draw, however, is the train itself. Placing the included Conductor Mickey in the train and then pressing the Mickey Head-shaped button will start the locomotive on its journey. As it moves across the tracks, the train plays music and says Mickey quotes. The set comes with cargo to transport, with Pluto hiding in it as a stowaway.
The Minnie Mouse Party and Play Puppy ($39.99) is also from Just Play. There are two ways to play with this toy. The first is more focused on Phoebe, Minnie’s canine companion. Kids can “train” her to bark, spin, and dance through the use of a clicker. The second way begins when you attach Phoebe’s leash to Minnie. The two friends also interact with each other! Minnie sings and talks to Phoebe, and she responds with affectionate puppy noises. Aren’t they adorable?
