Fly the fastest hunk of junk in the galaxy in the fastest way possible…

Disney just announced that Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run FastPass/MaxPass are coming soon! No official launch date yet, but once added, this will bring Disneyland’s FastPass attraction count up to 20. (Autopia and Monsters, Inc. Mike & Sully to the Rescue! were just added to the FastPass lineup today.)

You’ll soon be able to skip the standby at Smugglers Run… but, is it needed?

Disney’s FastPass system is meant to cut your time waiting in line, allowing you to experience more of the magic. Though, it seems that FastPass just makes overall standby waits even longer.

An attraction that is typically considered a low wait, or walk-on, usually has longer lines when FastPass is an option. Guests using FastPass are prioritized, inflating the standby queue significantly. The average ratio of guests at FastPass attractions is 4 FastPass guests for every 1 standby guest. Plus, depending on how long the FastPass queue is, that ratio can increase dramatically to clear out the FastPass patrons.

Is a Smuggler’s Run FastPass really needed?

There’s a certain thought mentality that a FastPass is better put to use than go to waste. This causes crowding for rides that once had reasonable waits before FastPass was added. Smugglers Run isn’t considered quick-wait attraction by any means, with an average standby time of 45-60 minutes, FastPasses could make the standby wait skyrocket even higher.

Are FastPasses necessary for Smugglers Run? How about Rise of the Resistance? How long do you think it will take before Rise is ready for FastPass? Would a Fastpass-ONLY option be better on some attractions than allowing standby lines to balloon?
