Disney-Pixar’s Onward makes its way to theaters March 6 and we have a sampler of some of the merchandise created for the film. But before we get to the goods, here’s an official trailer for Onward to help set the mood!
*Some of the shopDisney merchandise won’t be available until February 10 unless otherwise mentioned.
Toys
The Onward Deluxe Figure Play Set ($26.99) from shopDisney contains figurines of brothers Ian Lightfoot and Barley Lightfoot, father Wilden Lightfoot, and mother Laurel Lightfoot, along with Blazey the Lightfoot family dragon, Corey the manticore, Colt Bronco the centaur cop, and some biker gang sprites. Their detailed design will be great for recreating scenes from the movie.
Now onto my favorite of the Onward merchandise, the shopDisney plushes! Barley Lightfoot, Ian Lightfoot, Wilden Lightfoot, and the Manticore Mascot are classified as “medium plushes” and cost $22.99 each. Blazey and a Unicorn are considered “small plushes” with a price tag of $16.99 each. All of these plushes look fabulous, with extra details like embroidered features (and the patches on Barley’s vest!) plus a variety of fabric textures. I am especially excited for Blazey and the Unicorn.

Who’s up for some good old-fashioned role-playing? The Wizard Staff ($24.99), made by Mattel, looks just the one belonging to Wilden, Ian and Barley’s father. It’s a pretty decent size, extending to 36 inches tall, and the gem spins and lights up with the touch of the side button. This toy is available on Amazon, Waltmart.com, shopDisney and at Disney Stores.
If the shopDisney figures were too serious-looking (most of them look like they are bracing for battle), you should try these Mini Figures from Mattel. They are sold in blind bags at Walmart and Target for $3.49 each. We are told that the characters found in these blind bags are listed as: Barley, Ian, Dad, Manticore, Store Clerk, Officer Specter, Adolphus, Dewdrop the biker, Laurel, Unicorn, Colt Bronco, and Blazey.
Apparel and Accessories
Disneybounding as Ian is made easy with Cakeworthy’s Ian Flannel Shirt ($49.95). A patch of the Phoenix Gem is sewn into the shirt’s collar but the best detail is seen on the back. The back of the shirt is emblazoned with a quote, no doubt from Ian, “It’s not a quest. It’s a strange errand.” The Ian Flannel Shirt will be available for purchase starting February 28 at Cakeworthy and shopDisney.
If Ian’s big bro Barley is more your cup of tea, you can don his vest instead ($44.90). It is covered in the patches on Barley’s vest in Onward, including giant Phoenix on the back. The Barley Vest will be available from Hot Topic on February 18.
This Willowdale College Hoodie is made to resemble the one owned by Wilden. The name Lightfoot is embroidered on the chest. The hoodie ($54.90) pictured is by Hybrid Apparel and sold at BoxLunch. There is also a similar hoodie ($39.99) from shopDisney but it does not have a kangaroo pocket, which I feel makes it slightly less appealing.
Like the Barley Vest, Hot Topic is the place to go to buy this Pixie Dusters Tee ($26.90). The design is made to resemble the biker vest worn by the sprites, hence the gang name, “Pixie Dusters.” This shirt will be available starting February 18.
Another option for those who want to show their support for the Lightfoot brothers are pins ($8.90 each), available at BoxLunch starting February 18. Designs include the one seen below, which mimics one of the patches on Barley’s vest, as well as one made in the likeness of Blazey.
Kitchen Goods
For keeping snacks cool on your own daily quests, Igloo has created the Guinevere Van Playmate Cooler ($39.99), made in the likeness of Barley’s colorful van. The cooler holds 7 quarts and features a swivel lid and art that wraps around the lid. This is one of the more creative pieces of Onward merchandise I have seen and I think it works well.
Moving on from cold food to hot drinks (well, I guess cold drinks also work), we have the Unicorn 10-ounce tumbler ($18.99) from Tervis. As we see from the trailer, unicorns from Onward are no longer the majestic creatures they once were. The art on the tumbler reflects this in an amusing fashion. There is another Tervis tumbler based on Onward, a 16-ounce one with art of the brothers, but it isn’t as interesting to look at as this one.
Another Guinevere item is this mug ($19.99) from shopDisney. The detail on this thing is impressive! You can see just how beat-up the van is with tape on the side mirrors, mud on the tires, and rust on the bumper. It is sure to be one of the more unique mugs in your cupboard.
All quests start with the Manticore! This Manticore Tavern Mug ($14.99) by Silver Buffalo is just the thing to drink mead, grog, or root beer in while planning your next big adventure. Acquire this item at Hot Topic or BoxLunch.
Books
Onward: The Search for the Phoenix Gem ($10.99) is a book set in the world of Onward. Here is the official synopsis:
Sadalia Brushthorn is an ordinary teenage elf. She goes to school, hangs out with her friends, and dreams of becoming a journalist. But the problem is, nothing exciting ever seems to happen in her town of New Mushroomton. Sadalia wonders if she’ll ever get the chance to write a true investigative story. Then one day something mysterious, monumental, and shockingly magical erupts at her high school, sending everything into chaos. And the whole event centers on two elf brothers, Ian and Barley Lightfoot. Sadalia thinks this is her chance to finally write a real story. But there are so many questions: What caused this event? How are Ian and Barley involved? And why were they searching for a magical object known as the Phoenix Gem? It’s up to Sadalia to set out on her own in-questigation, to follow the Lightfoot brothers’ epic quest and discover the truth about the events that transformed her town and her entire world.
Another book is Onward: Quests of Yore ($16.99). Here is the official synopsis:
Barley and Ian Lightfoot would never set out on an adventure without their Quests of Yore guide book! Based on the book featured in the movie, this guide is full of wondrous characters and creatures to meet, exciting landmarks to explore, and powerful spells to learn. It even includes Ian and Barley’s fun doodles and notes, so you can join the two brothers on their epic quest!
Finally, to help you pen your own adventure is this Notebook ($14.99). The included pen is inspired by Wilden’s wizard staff and the gem at the top actually lights up! And I (clearly) adore the cover art. It resembles an old-school Dungeons and dragons player’s handbook. What’s not to love?
