The Disney Cast Member name tag is much more than a simple form of ID. It tells onlookers the wearer’s hometown, if they speak languages other than English, how long they’ve worked for the company, and can illustrate any awards they’ve won. The highest honor that Cast Members can achieve at the Disney Parks is The Walt Disney Legacy Award, showcased to guests with the now-iconic blue name badge.
This global recognition program debuted in 2011, and is awarded to those who dream, create, and inspire their fellow Cast Members to go above and beyond the call of duty to deliver Disney magic.
How the Disney Legacy Awards works
- To qualify for this worldwide recognition program, Cast Members must meet certain job performance markers, emulating the words “Dream, Create and Inspire”. The ideal candidate goes above and beyond every day, improves their work environment and continuously inspires others.
- Fellow Cast Members nominate their co-workers for the award.
- Nominations are then sent to a local panel consisting of executives, leaders and other Cast Members to select the annual winners.
- The nominated Cast Members are only notified if they are chosen to receive the award – what a nice surprise!
Meet two Disney Legacy Award Winners
Recent recipients, Brittany and Jennifer Compton, are a mother-daughter duo from the Disneyland Resort whose achievements were made all the more special by the fact that the awards were earned and won together.

Brittany is a Fantasyland Merchandise Hostess while her mother, Jennifer, is a Guest Relations Hostess. Jennifer raised Brittany to uphold the same values as Walt Disney, and now both of them are an integral part of continuing his enduring legacy.
“I knew my mom was going to get it and I was overjoyed, but I needed to hide my excitement,” Brittany said of the moments leading up to their surprise double award gathering. “And then I was surprised! We have done everything together and I love that I will have this memory with her for the rest of our lives.”
Jennifer explained, “To be able to share this moment and Walt’s legacy with Brittany in a new way is just such an honor. It’s so humbling.”
Brittany and Jennifer are just two of this year’s honorees from the Disneyland Resort.
