Halloween is this month, MiceChatters. That means a few things: Pumpkin Spice everything, bulk candy at supermarkets that you can hoard for yourself, and reruns of The Nightmare Before Christmas.

That last point leads us to the focus of this article: a closer look at the Zero puppet from Folkmanis Puppets. The company has several Disney-branded plush puppets (and goodness knows how many original ones), including a huge Jack Skellington and his ghost dog buddy, Zero.

[Note: The puppet reviewed in this article was purchased with my own money. Additionally, MiceChat does not receive any compensation from the links in this post. Finally, I would like to extend my thanks to my ever-patient Mother for assisting with the photo shoot.]

Folkmanis Nightmare Before Christmas Zero Puppet

First, let’s start with Zero’s measurements. He’s 30 inches long and 9 inches tall. The cavity that you stick your hand into is pretty deep and as you can see, Zero’s body extends a good length along the arm.

Here’s a close-up of the tag. What does the inside say? We’ll get to that later on.

The outer layer of fabric that gives a Zero ghostly feel is organza. The sheet is a bit longer than the body and does a good job of not only covering it, but also a portion of your arm as you manipulate him.

The gradient shading in Zero’s mouth is a nice touch. It’s these little details that make these puppets look so professionally crafted.

Zero says “Hello!” and “Woof!”

Okay, I thought this design choice was particularly cool. Zero’s eyes are are concave, sort of like an empty skull. Folkmanis Puppets could have gone the easier route and just had them be embroidered dots but they didn’t and I love how it came out. The sockets are actually pretty deep, too.

Finally, we get a look at the inside of the tag. Folkmanis Puppets designed their Zero with a light-up nose feature and these are the instructions.

The battery pack as well as the on/off button is on Zero’s back. It’s under a small part of the seam that is sealed with velcro.

Here’s a look Zero’s light-up nose. As you would expect, the effect is much more impressive in darker environments. In daylight, you can’t really tell how bright it glows but it is, in fact, pretty strong.

I have been a fan of Folkmanis Puppets for some time but I am particularly impressed by their Disney line, Zero included. They do such a great job of reimagining the characters as interactive toys. And if you are into social media stuff, they make for great photos at Disney Parks. Just saying.

Are there any other Disney characters you think that would make great puppets? Let us know in the comments!
