Another Halloween season has cast its spell across Disneyland, and along with it came plenty of tricks and treats. While all the novelty sweets, such as themed cake pops, crispy treats, and candied apples are always a huge hit, we thought it might be fun to taste our way through more substantial and savory bites.
Here are some of the hits of the season:
Released on Friday, September 6th, this year’s Halloween Food Guide also lists most of the Haunted Mansion 50th Anniversary Celebration treats. Let’s kick off our grand circle foodie tour with a few anniversary ghoulish delights:
Haunted Mansion 50th Anniversary Eats
Professor Phineas Plump’s “Cure-All” Fritters $5.49
These can be found at the Royal Street Veranda and are worth the wait. We suggest you mobile order because the lines can get pretty long and there isn’t much shade available in that area. The Pimento Cheese Fritters are everything we didn’t know we needed, and if you like a little kick with your snack, try it with the Ghost Pepper Ranch Dressing that’s included.
These fritters come portioned as a trio, so it’s the perfect size to share or snack on between meals.
The Long Forgotten Duelist Tacos $13.49
Rancho del Zocalo has two Fry Bread Tacos, featuring Grilled Fajita Beef and Braised Butter Chicken served with Mexican Rice and Pickled Vegetables. It may not look as pretty as decorated cakes and cookies, but this was a delicious meal. This portion size is quite large and enough for two people to share.
Blackberry Midnight Julep $4.49
We weren’t too sure about this one, but a Blackberry, Citrus and Mint Julep served with Lychee “Moon” is an ideal drink to sip while escaping the heat in New Orleans Square. Be sure to grab a straw, even if it’s just to stir the flavors together—it transforms as you go, so no two sips are quite the same.
13th-Hour Brew $5.99
Move over Starbucks! If you need a boost to get you through your day, pick up this Iced Coffee with Vanilla Cream at Harbour Galley to keep you going. If you like your coffee strong and creamy, then this is the drink for you!
Pickwick Ghost Punch $5.99
Looking for a drink to cool you off without having to order something ‘frozen’? We popped over to Royal Street Veranda in the early afternoon for this lively concoction of Fruit, Citrus Juices and Sherbet. It’s reminiscent of the punch they serve for highschool dances with its sweet and fruit-forward flavors, but it certainly is a great way to beat the heat.
Halloween Eats
Now on to the reason for the season: spooky Halloween eats!
Since we don’t have to grow up on a visit to Disneyland, we indulged in our childhood fantasy of sweet treats for breakfast. Don’t pass up making a stop at Jolly Holiday Bakery Cafe–there’s something for everyone.
Poison Apple mug and Pumpkin bucket available at various carts throughout the Resort.
Spiced Bundt Cake $5.79
Topped with a chocolate bat, this simple cake turned out to be a favorite of everyone at the table. Pro Tip: Order this with the pumpkin cheesecake and eat them together. You’ll thank us later.
Mummy Macaron $5.99
This cookies and cream treat is best when eaten straight out of the case. How they manage to keep such a sizable macaron so perfect, we’d love to know. This is a favorite of adults and children alike.
Pumpkin Layered Cheesecake $5.79
If pumpkin spice is everything nice for you when it comes to this season, don’t pass on this cheesecake. We could eat this any time of day…and may have taken one for the road.
Sweet Potato Hand Pie $4.99
Filled with Sweet Potato Pie filling, topped with Orange White Chocolate Glaze and Toasted Mini Marshmallows, this returning Halloween treat still hits the spot and tastes like autumn.
Lamb Kofta $11.99
Back again this Halloween at Bengal BBQ, the Lamb with Tzatziki Sauce, Spinach and Pickled Onions on Grilled Pita is another treat we were excited to see. Warning: this dish is jam-packed with spices and brings the heat, so it isn’t for everyone.
Don’t let this photo fool you. There is PLENTY of lamb under those greens.
Loaded Fleet Fries $9.49
These loaded Waffle Fries topped with Slow-cooked (spicy) BBQ Pulled Pork, Cheese, Chipotle Ranch and creamy Cilantro-Lime Coleslaw from Galactic Grill are a meal all on their own. If you’re a fan of hearty portions and a slow-burn, add this to your ‘must-try’ list.
You can order these on their own as a meal, but they’re also a great snack to share with another hungry Halloweener or two.
Rest in Peace-Strami Dog $10.29
At Award Wieners you can order this All-Beef Hot Dog topped with thinly-sliced Pastrami, Caramelized Onions, Pickles and Mustard Sauce! The only thing we can complain about is the amount of meat and lack of yellow mustard on this dish. We want more, more, more! Rest in Peace to this hot dog—we doubt you’ll be able to leave behind a single bite.
Rest in Peace-Strami Fries $8.99
Depending on your appetite, you can order these ‘matching’ Filmstrip Fries on their own or alongside your RIP hot dog. The wavy cut of the fries are the perfect vessel for this meal.
Pro Tip: Pick up a handful of yellow mustard packets at the condiment station–it’s the only thing missing.
Seasonal Bread Pudding $5.39
Maple Bacon Bread Pudding topped with Whipped Cream, Maple Glaze, and Candied Bacon?! Sign us up for breakfast, lunch, and dinner! Pacific Wharf Cafe has been churning out a new bread pudding every few months and this one is sitting pretty in our top three. There are bacon bits scattered throughout the pudding and the smell of this dish is absolutely intoxicating (whether you like bacon or not).
Don’t let the line discourage you, mobile order this one for a stress-free evening on the Wharf.
Blood Orange Slush $7.59
Galactic Grill has added a Blood Orange slush with a swirl of Raspberry Sauce and a glow cube. Yes, this slush comes with a glow cube and we hope this flavor sticks around long after the season is over.
Note: the straw is ours. We bring metal straws from home to avoid using disposable paper ones. Nothing ruins the experience of a drink like a wilted paper straw halfway through it!
We couldn’t close out this foodie adventure without indulging in an adult beverage. Hiding out at the Gourmet Coffee Cart near the entrance of Pixar Pier, this frozen lime and coconut rum slush is a refreshing concoction at any time of day. It’s topped with a raspberry swirl, whipped cream and a candy topping–but you can customize it to your liking. This one may be a bit too sweet for some, but sip with caution: this drink will creep up on you.
We liked most of the food items this year, which is quite the feat–especially with a seasonal menu. These offerings and more are available across the Disneyland Resort until October 31st. What have you tried so far? What has you the most intrigued? Let us know down below.
