It’s a Fab fun day folks! With the D23 Expo just a few days away, there’s one thing that I just can’t wait to find out more about . . . Disney’s Secret Project mystery – just WHAT is it? Tell me now!

As for today’s conjecture, I thought we could speculate on Disney’s “Secret Project” as well as a not-so-likely rumor about Star Wars land that would make it a whole new world. Let’s have some fun . . .

Disney Secret Project

It’s right there on the D23 Expo schedule for everyone to see – Disney Secret Project – to be announced August 22. That gives us a few fun days to try to guess what kind of candy is in the piñata! I’ll go first, then you tell me what you think it will be in the comments.

I hope that it is a new park somewhere close to me, like California (strawberry field) or Florida (that fifth gate rumor we were discussing a few weeks back). California may be a stretch since attendance has been light, but wait until the cheaper APs get in and Rise of the Resistance opens before you make any decisions. A Star Wars Hotel would be awfully nice, too, but where would they put it so that it could enter Galaxy’s Edge directly?

Disney Secret Project might be a Star Wars Hotel for Disneyland

Perhaps it could be a water park? We all know Disney does water parks VERY well, and they don’t have one in California.

I asked a few people I know about what they think it is. Dusty says it’s likely not a theme park or a place you would go. He thinks it is company-related but will still be of interest to fans. Len Testa says it won’t be anything like a theme park, but will be some kind of in-house recognition or program for Cast Members. I still wish it was a theme park, because I love theme parks best.

Cast Member Recognition

Jim Hill says it’s MagicBands for Anaheim “if we’re going to go waaay out there”. And my space alien daughter Alice says it’s Lunar Disneyland and that’s why the astronauts left poop on the moon. No mixup in the nursery with that one.

So…what do you think it is? A new network for Disney+? A revamp of their website? Bathrooms in Liberty Square? Let me know in the comments below since your guess is as good as mine!

Will Batuu Become Agrabah?

The CEO of Disney, Bob Iger, came out and admitted that Disney messed up the opening of Galaxy’s Edge, but he also blamed area hotels for raising prices in anticipation of the opening (but as I recall, it was the Disney Hotels which offered the highest prices) and too many dire warnings of crowds. The Fandom Menace and so forth are calling it “Galaxy’s Failure” and “Galaxy’s Dead”.

The rumor that I heard is that that internal memos indicate that Disney knows that the land is in trouble. After they got a first look when SOLO (which I loved) tanked – for Star Wars – at the box office, they started to worry about how much people actually wanted to pilot the Millennium Falcon  – even though folks are also saying, “but wait until Florida opens” or “wait until the holiday season”. There’s now a solid camp in WDI campaigning to have France’s Star Wars Land be a recognizable, well-known existing Star Wars location, with older characters like Boba Fett and Darth Vader.

The attraction also is thrilling guests at the Walt Disney World Resort in Lake Buena Vista, Fla. (Disney Enterprises, Inc./Lucasfilm Ltd.)

One of the things that I just don’t believe is that Disney might admit failure and attempt to change the land to something else. Have you heard elsewhere that, since Galaxy’s Edge looks quite a bit like Tunisia or Morocco to the uninitiated, it could be changed to Agrabah, home of Aladdin and the Genie?. . . I’ll give you a billion dollars reasons why that’s not going to happen any time soon.

The set designer even bragged about how much of the set design objects were from the Middle East

But how would that happen? Change Smuggler’s Run to a Magic Carpet Ride and Rise of the Resistance to The Cave of Wonders? Add a carpet spinner with spitting camels and change DJ R-3X to the Genie? . . .  It just seems like it wouldn’t be worth the effort for a property that makes less money than Star Wars with a (comparatively) smaller fandom.

I’d be very surprised if this is something Disney is really considering, but it’s a rumor circulating out there, so I thought it would be fun to share, and crazier things have happened. What do you think? How would you revamp and/or improve Galaxy’s Edge? Or are things just perfect the way they are? And most importantly . . . what’s the secret Disney project?  One of you just has to know and I can’t wait any longer. Help a Fabby out!

We address rumors here, and we’ll make sure to always point out what IS a rumor, why it’s a rumor and encourage you to always take it with the grain of salt that makes rumors so delicious in the first place. Use it as a starting-off point for speculation and imagination, because, to be honest, rumors are fun.
