The end of summer has arrived, and brings with it the hopes of a fog-filled fall. Knott’s had an incredible summer with two fantastic promotions, Summer Nights and Ghost Town Alive that drew huge crowds like never before. But now that the long, warm nights of summer have ended, it’s time for the dark and scary nights of Haunt-season to take their place. Let’s take a look at the seasonal transition from summer to fall at Knott’s, as well as other recent updates from around the park.

Summer Nights Closes
Knott’s Summer Nights promotion has come to an end. It’s hard to express how much fun this offering was. Two stages featuring two different local bands rocking three sets a night, followed by a DJ blasting beats around the Charleston Fountain, plus, add in lots o fun festival food and walk-around characters . . . this promotion was incredible. I hope that this becomes a summer staple for Knott’s!
The characters are what made this event so charming. Their interactions brought cohesion to all three venues.
While we’re sad to see it go, it really left a lasting impression on us. We can’t wait for next year!
Take Down
With Summer Nights over and Scary Farm on the way, Knott’s is getting the Calico Mine Stage ready. A small problem has occurred, the Astroturf glued down for Summer Nights is not ready to give up the fight just yet. There are construction walls around the turf and it smells like they are trying to chemically treat the glue for removal.
Knott’s has left the smaller stage in the Calico Square and has decided to extend the Summer Nights bands a few more Friday and Saturday nights.
Scary Farm Begins to Materialize
Throughout the park, Scary Farm begins to materialize. Temporary walls have been placed Knott’s has decided to extend the Summer Nights bands a few more Friday and Saturday nights. the queue for the house under the Stagecoach path around Camp Snoopy.
Near Ghost Rider, we have strong indications of the Depths returning.
The Boardwalk Ballroom has the temporary background pieces installed around the marquee for Dark Ride.
Shadowlands facade is up around the Xcelerator queue. Knott’s has confirmed that Shadowlands is returning to Scary Farm this year.
Temporary walls have popped out of the Western Dance Hall for a speculated updated Red Barn Maze.
Around the park, we can see additional show lighting popping up on buildings and flowerbeds around the park.
We also spotted a few additional speakers installed around Camp Snoopy.
Knott’s has already confirmed the following for Scary Farm this year:
- Scare Zones:
- Houses:
- Entertainment:
We can’t wait to see what Knott’s has cooked up this year. Speaking of Scary Farm, our Micechat Scary Farm Event only has a few tickets left. Be sure to grab yours today or you might get left out of the fog!
Knott’s 2020: It’s Where It’s At
A few days ago, Knott’s released the following statement about the Farm’s 100th Anniversary:
To commemorate Knott’s Berry Farm’s milestone anniversary, the park will present “A Knott’s Family Reunion,” a summer-long event paying tribute to Knott’s history and legacy of family fun. Guests will be immersed in a once-in-a-lifetime celebration featuring festive park décor, themed food items, unique entertainment, exclusive merchandise and special surprises along the way, all paying homage to the nostalgia that surrounds the historic theme park. Details about the exciting 100th anniversary celebration festivities will be announced in the coming months.
We are super excited about the upcoming year as Knott’s has been really delivering on entertainmet. And what would be more exciting than a Centennial Celebration! Along with the announcement, Knott’s released their 2020 Annual Passes:
One of the things we found interesting is the price difference for Gold and Platinum. If you’re going to add parking, it’s only a $2 difference to upgrade to Platinum. If you’re even thinking about visiting any other Cedar Fair parks, like Great America, Gilroy Gardens, or even Cedar Point, it is a no brainer to grab Platinum with the cost difference being so small. But what is the most interesting is that Knott’s is holding firm with the $99 price of pass entry making this park incredibly affordable to most families. (Also: Knott’s is offering a discount for renewing 2019 passes. The offer only applies until October 27th!)
Around the Farm
Log Ride Celebrates Its 50th Anniversary
Over at Timber Mountain Log Ride, quite a few changes have occurred during the summer. First off, Knott’s is celebrating the Log Ride’s 50 Anniversary. As a part of the celebration, the ride has received a new song by Krazy Kirk and the Hillbillies that plays throughout the whole ride.
Inside the ride, a few new Figures were added by Garner Holt Productions.

Another important change is that the logs now have separate seats, making the ride safer for guests. There are 4 padded individual seats instead of the 2 sets of lap-sitting seats.
I did notice a few logs only have three seats. These are to accommodate guests of larger sizes. In the 4 seat logs, I personally found it a bit snug. The three-person log, with the removed seat, has a considerable amount of extra space. Unfortunately, the metal bar that the seats are bolted down to is exposed in the three-person log and additional padding is needed to cover them.
With Halloween approaching fast, there’s most likely going to be a return of the Halloween Hootenanny overlay.
Other Entertainment Changes
Speaking of other things changing for the Halloween season, Space Beagle is close to being swapped out for the Peanuts Halloween show.
Space Beagle is left over from this year’s Peanuts Celebration and it’s one of the best shows designed for the outdoor theater yet. If you haven’t seen this delightful production, be sure to on your next visit.
At the Calico Saloon, the Saloon Show has returned. The show was relocated to the Bird Cage Theater during the summer to help space out the offerings during Ghost Town Alive.
Now that summer is over, it’s back to the Saloon with Cameo Kate and Dakota Dan.
South Ghost Town Restroom Refurbishment
A refurbishment project has started on the restrooms next to Mystery Lodge.
If this restroom is up to the same standard as the other recently refurbished set by the Saloon, it will be a bit improvement.
Western Entrance Walled Off
Knott’s has added walls around the Western entrance to the park. These walls match the walls around the Calico River Rapids, although they’re not for construction. They (poorly) hide the park gate when it is not in use.
Personally, I don’t think this was a great decision. The walls make this corner of the park feel much more claustrophobic. The walls are trying to hide something that’s visible from a few steps down the walkway; it’s just not worth the effort.
Carnival Game Updated
Over at the Boardwalk, Knott’s has pulled out their Whack-A-Mole game and replaced it with another water gun game.
While this new game does look nicer (and has stools), there are two other duplicate water gun games in the same area.
Ghost Town VR Experience Closed
Knott’s has closed its VR Experience and replaced its lobby with additional arcade machines. While we’re sad to see it go, it had a hard time drawing guests. Although, we wonder if this is permanent or if they plan to change it in some way and bring it back.
While the $5 extra might have been a hard sell for some, there’s a good chance that the location and the relatively difficult navigation to get there were the big factors as to why this excellent experience wasn’t as popular as it should have been.
Sky Cabin Music Update
On a recent visit, we noticed Knott’s updated the music in the Sky Cabin. The Cabin no longer has the jazzy music featured in the Peanuts specials but features a more generic score that fits very well with the ride’s rise and descent.
