Hello! I took a couple of weeks off so that Dusty and I could address the brouhaha over Disney rumors. Don’t worry, we’ll keep posting rumors as we have since the beginning, but we’ll make sure to always point out what IS a rumor, why it’s a rumor and encourage you to always take it with the grain of salt that makes rumors so delicious in the first place. Use it as a starting-off point for speculation and imagination, because, to be honest, rumors are fun.

The Pirates of the Caribbean walkthrough had the steel up before it was torn out and replaced with the sail-through adventure we know and love today. Things change at Disney and it’s impossible to predict correctly what will happen all the time. Sometimes, I’ll address a rumor that is completely and utterly ridiculous (future post: Disneyland in Texas!) just because it’s fun. When they’re disproven, we’ll put that in the article like we did with the it’s a small world closing rumor. But if they come true, I’ll address that too. With confetti.

So, let’s have fun and talk about this latest rumor! I heard this from a Lucasfilm podcast with Jim Hill and Dan Z., a Twitter friend who will remain anonymous, and a tentative confirmation from someone in a place of firsthand knowledge. With all this, I will still call it a rumor until official confirmation from Disney.

Rumor: Table-Service Restaurant Coming to Galaxy’s Edge

, The Joy of Rumors and Table-Service in Galaxy’s Edge

When Star Wars Land was first announced, a table-service restaurant was among the proposed delights of the land. The Orange County Register described it this way:

  • Documents reveal that there appears to be one large sit-down and table service restaurant. The restaurant – yet to be named or themed – appears in the middle of the land. Based on plans, it appears to be larger than the Blue Bayou restaurant in Disneyland’s Pirates of the Caribbean ride.

The restaurant would have had some sort of show element, animatronics and a bar with characters swimming in it.

It was cut from the budget shortly after the Bantha ride was removed, and only the Cantina, a separate establishment, remained. Oga’s Cantina was such a massive hit, Disney knew that they had to find a way to entertain the overflow – making guests happy and a nice profit for the Parks division. It’s been fast-tracked for Phase 2, which is after Phase 1 is completed with the opening of Rise of the Resistance. I’ve heard that it’s going to be more of a Sonny Eclipse-like continuous show (you WDW fans will know what I mean) than a timed show with a beginning, middle and ending. I think this is a good idea.

It was also featured in an ABC special which included concept art:

ABC Disney

Some of this art seems like it would be interchangeable with Oga’s Cantina concepts, but the Oga’s art is different and looks very close to what the Cantina came out to be.

I wonder what they’d serve there? Would it be a Star Wars version of Be Our Guest, or Carthay Circle, or Blue Bayou? All of these have received some speculation. Imaginative table-service is sort of lacking at Disneyland, in comparison to Walt Disney World. Disneyland Paris’ Star Wars Land is going to be something totally different from the stateside twins. What do you suggest they do there?

What would you like to see from the Star Wars Universe in the restaurant? What specialty drinks? Let me know in the comments below!

Food and Fun at Knott’s Berry Farm

July 11 is the 50th anniversary of Knott’s Timber Mountain Log Ride. A few years back, this old favorite was given a new lease on life from Garner Holt Productions, and it’s a joy to ride – but you’re gonna get WET. While you’re at it, hop across the path to ride the Calico Mine Train, which also got the Garner Holt treatment and is a ton of fun! And I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention that Big Foot Rapids ALSO got the Garner Holt treatment this summer with a completely new show and a new name . . . Calico River Rapids. It’s been a hugely successful summer at Knott’s for a reason.
