The Last Standing Magic Kingdom Ticket Booth!

You’ve heard the phrase, “That was an E-Ticket ride”, right?

Before Disneyland, most amusement parks offered free admission and you paid for each ride. In most cases, the ride operator rented space from the amusement park and maintained their own attraction, whether it was a roller coaster, carousel or other ride.

In 1955, Disneyland wasn’t much different. There was a small admission fee, but you paid for each attraction with a ticket. A, B, C and D tickets were used until 1959 when the venerated E-Ticket was added with the expansion of Tomorrowland.

I outlined all of the Magic Kingdom ticket booths in this 1974 map.

You purchased tickets at ticket booths scattered throughout the park, usually near an attraction. When the Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World opened in 1971, ticket books were still in use and would be until EPCOT Center opened in 1982. Most of the attractions at EPCOT Center were considered E-Ticket level, so the decision was made to change to a Pay-One-Price model that had been popularized by Six Flags over Texas. Admission fees were increased, but you didn’t have to pay for each attraction.

What Did They Do With All of Those Abandoned Ticket Booths?

At Disneyland, many of them are still around and have been integrated into the queues. At the Magic Kingdom, there is one standing ticket booth. But is there another?

There were only six Magic Kingdom ticket booths that I could locate throughout the years, with one each in Adventureland, Frontierland, Liberty Square and Tomorrowland. Fantasyland had two booths, which makes sense based on the number of rides.

Do you remember any of the Magic Kingdom ticket booths? Do you think the Tomorrowland DVC kiosk is the last one?
