On Sunday, July 14, Garner Holt and Ryman Arts are hosting a very special evening at Walt Disney’s house on Woking Way in Los Angeles. And you’re invited to join in the activities.
The event supports the arts education focus of Ryman Arts, a charitable foundation created in honor of Herbert D. Ryman, famed Disney artist and one of the first Imagineers. Garner Holt, founder and president of Garner Holt Productions Inc. (the world’s largest designer and builder of animatronics and other theme park magic), Ryman Arts board member, and author of MiceChat’s own This Animatronic Life) is hosting the event.
“It’s an honor to serve on the board of directors of Ryman Arts,” said Holt. “Each year, we like to hold really unique events to promote the life and legacy of Herb Ryman and to positively impact the lives of young artists. We thought a garden party at Walt’s house was the perfect way to do that!”
Walt built the house on Woking Way for his family, where they lived from 1933 to 1950. The home was designed and built in a distinct fairytale style, complete with open beams, turrets, and elaborate stained glass windows. While living there, Walt installed a screening room so he could bring his studio work home with him. Classic Disney animated features like Snow White, Pinocchio, and Fantasia were created during the family’s time at the house.
On July 14, a limited number of guests are invited to enjoy guided tours, thematic food and drink, cocktails (including the classic “Happy Herbie”), and a display of original Herb Ryman artwork. A special VIP experience is offered that includes an exclusive presentation in Walt’s screening room by renowned Disney historian Jeff Kurtti (Travels with Walt Disney, Practically Poppins in Every Way, From All of Us to All of You: the Art of the Disney Christmas Card, and many, many more).
The Silverado Vineyards Winery—founded by Walt’s daughter Diane and son-in-law Ron Miller—will provide wine sampling for the event. Walt Disney’s granddaughter, Joanna Miller, will also be on hand to greet guests and share in the special evening at her grandparents’ house.
“We’re honored to have Joanna join us,” Holt continued. “She’s a great supporter of Ryman Arts and her grandfather’s amazing arts and education legacy.”
The VIP event kicks off at 4:00pm, with a presentation from Kurtti. General admission guests may enter from 5:00pm, and the evening ends at 8:00pm. General admission tickets are limited to 75 guests.
