Hello, my dears! I’ve got another Disneyland rumor to jaw about, plus sad news for those who like good merchandise and a chance to hobnob at Walt’s old hangout with a group of legends.
Let’s get to the juicy stuff first:
Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge Previews
Remember when I mentioned that Annual Passholders might be getting a preview of phase 2 of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disneyland? Well, it looks like Disney is edging ever closer to that announcement. While talks continue at Team Disney Anaheim, it looks like they’re going to be trying it out first for the East Coast opening.
Higher-end passholders, e.g. Platinum, Platinum Plus and Premier Annual Passholders will be among the first to visit Hollywood Studios’ version of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge BEFORE official opening.
More information and registration details will be released later, and reservations will be limited. There are so many passholders all over the world, they won’t be able to accommodate every single one.
If this works out well for Florida, we’re almost sure to have the same thing out here for the opening of Rise of the Resistance. And with Disney’s most frequent fans in the house, it would also be a great occasion to sell some limited-edition merchandise and kick-start a 2nd round of publicity for Galaxy’s Edge.
I’m hearing that the new land really won’t feel complete until after Rise of the Resistance (THE KYLO REN RIDE) opens. It’s part Star Tours, part Mystic Manor, part Tower of Terror, part Pirates of the Caribbean. . . a long-form dark ride for a new generation. Maybe even with some Pirates Shanghai stuff thrown in there, too. Who better to try out such an Imagineering Extravaganza on than Disneyland’s faithful Passholders, at least those willing to shell out the big bucks for the higher-tier Passports.
Speaking of Merchandise
Steven Miller, who brings all of the attraction-specific and Yesterland-based merchandise to Disneyland, along with a lot of great tiki and the ubiquitous rose gold, is leaving his position to take one higher up the totem pole at Walt Disney World. Starting off as a boat skipper on the Seven Seas Lagoon, he’s one of the good folks who understands what Disney is and what it means to fans. He’s leaving behind gigantic shoes to fill. We wish him the best of luck and all the happiness he brought to us over the past decade-plus. Safe travels, Skipper!
