Hello from Hollywood, California! Well, not THE Hollywood…The Hollywood of famous filming locations! Today we’re visiting the Moonlight Rollerway in Glendale, CA. You might have a vague sense of Deja vu here because this is an iconic filming location for music videos, TV shows and movies. It is a right of passage in Southern California and we were lucky enough to be first-timers at this institution of nostalgia. And it’s not just for any old night…
D23 Mickey Mouse’s Roller Disco Party
It’s a DISNEY NIGHT! D23 threw a party! Mickey Mouse’s Roller Disco Party debuted and reignited SKATE NIGHT! Do you remember skate night? Our parents would drop us off and we would skate the night away to our favorite music. It was a carefree time for me where I’d take a break to play some Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles before winning the speed race. The winner got to choose a prize from the skate shop. These Fridays defined my childhood. I don’t remember when I stopped going, but it’s been a long time.
The place is pure vintage joy. From the carpet to the skates and the snack bar, every sight and smell ignites a plethora of memories as you begin to realize the toll the world has taken on your knees and decide if skating is a good idea.
Mickey and Minnie debuted new 70’s inspired disco outfits!
I’m that chaperone that came to the 70’s disco in her outdated fashion. What can I say? I’m a 50’s and 60’s lady.
Ticket prices for the event were $57 (including a $7 processing fee) and included an open snack bar featuring pizza, nachos, chicken nuggets, mini corn dogs, tater tots, popcorn, pretzels and fountain drinks. It also included unlimited beer and wine.
We skated along with some Disney celebrities like Ashley Eckstein (actress, voice actress and fashion designer) and Brett Iwan (the voice of Mickey Mouse).
The host rocked a look that looks straight out of the new movie Rocketman.

The event also included a re-release of the vinyl album Mickey Mouse Disco.
Did we have fun? YES.
This is the kind of event that makes having a D23 membership worth it. We ate about $20 worth of food each, and the skate rental and admission would be around $16 on an average day, so to have the rink shut down and just for Disney fans free food, AND free alcohol, AND a free album, AND fine entertainment? Yep. This event was worth admission. We had a great time!
