Punch it, Chewie!
Those of you on the West Coast have been reveling in the opening of your new Star Wars land at the Disneyland Resort. It has been excruciating for those of us on Disney’s other coast to wait on the sidelines for the opening of our own version of the highly anticipated land.
To tide you over, we’ve got some fantastic images of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disney’s Hollywood Studios at Walt Disney World. Sit back and salivate over these gorgeous aerial photos from our friends at nearmap.
Overview
What’s that large new area at Disney’s Hollywood Studios? It’s Star Wars folks! The big building at the lower center of the image below is the Millennium Falcon ride. Next to it on the right is the Rise of the Resistance:
It looks like the parking lot of Disney’s Hollywood Studios is already full of people waiting for the opening! Just kidding. Or are we?
Check out the top of the photo to see the Alien Swirling Saucers and Slinky Dog Dash. The top right corner is MuppetVision 3D and the Grand Avenue area.
Let’s Move In A Little Closer…
Below you see the large building which holds Dok-Ondar’s Den of Antiquities and Savi’s Workshop.
Zoomed in a little closer…
We see the Droid Depot at center, the restrooms are behind that in the courtyard area. And the First Order occupies the area on the left of this image. The Cantina is at bottom and the Falcon is just out of frame on the lower right.
Flip that image and here’s what the view facing the Droid Depot looks like in the concept art:
And let’s zoom in some more! The complex below is very interesting because it’s very different things on each side. Dok-Ondar’s on the bottom right. Savi’s Workshop is just above Dok-Ondar and below the Droid Depot, which is at the top and middle of the image. Guests can double back to the left of this image where they’ll find themselves in a sort of courtyard with a tall communications tower, restrooms, and the Droid Washing Station which is behind the Droid Depot naturally.
The aerials above are all from the opposite view of the concept art. Here’s the First Order area in the concept image: on the bottom right, you’ll spy the TIE Echelon. Immediately above it on the right is the First Order shop. The bigger round building above that is the Cantina. Across from the Echelon is the Blue Milk stand, which has a small shade tarp above it.
Shifting our view a little to the right. The main building at the center is the Marketplace. You’ll see what looks like an “L” shaped arcade topped with oddly placed sticks. That’s the Marketplace shops. The dome at the right of the arcade is Ronto’s Roasters. Below the Marketplace, in the solid part of the building is Docking Bay 7. The supply ship hasn’t landed on top yet.
Sliding more towards the center top. There is so much activity going on!
The pathways of the Resistance base take up most of the image below and look quite a bit different than Disneyland’s. We can also see the large exterior area of the Rise of the Resistance queue.
If the entrance from Grand Avenue stays, then it looks like you will enter through a cave. There are certainly a large number of trees around the edge…of the edge!
I hope the rock work is as stunning as the concept art. But if Disneyland’s version holds true to ours, it will be highly detailed.
The Millennium Falcon!
Everyone has been raving about how good the Falcon looks at Disneyland. She’ll be open soon in Orlando as well.
Regardless of what Han Solo said in A New Hope, she is a lot to look at!
