UPDATE: Oga’s Cantina, Savi’s Workshop, and Droid Depot all now offer a two week reservation to allow more flexibility to guests. Guests will still be able to make same-day reservations, or book a reservation up to 14 days in advance. Additional reservations will be opened on the actual day, so the Cantina won’t be completely booked two weeks ahead.
We hear that additional changes may be made to the booking window in the future to bring it more in line with other Disneyland experiences.
Oga’s Cantina a Delightful Den of Scum and Villainy
(Originally posted May 29th)
I knew I’d like it, but for me, the highlight of my Galaxy’s Edge experience was . . . the Cantina! And not just for the drinks. Oga’s Cantina is the ultimate meeting place for travelers from all over the galaxy. And with a beep, bop Star Wars inspired soundtrack spun “live” by the establishment’s DJ droid, it soars with energy and the whimsical side of Star Wars.
How It Works
As can be expected, this is going to be one of the most popular venues inside Galaxy’s Edge. Reservations fill up fast. Because of the limited space inside the Cantina, there is a strict 45-minute limit once inside and a two drink maximum!
Beware of the cut-throat seating; if you leave your table, you are subject to being replaced by a different group immediately. While you can explore the Cantina, it’s not recommended that your whole group does so at the same time. Also, if you need to use the restroom, please be sure to speak to a Castmember at the door so they can give you a reentry pass to get back in the cantina.
Inside Oga’s Cantina
The theming of the bar is wholly immersive, even to the point that it potentially outshines the rest of the land. It pairs the gritty and visceral feeling of the cantina in Mos Eisley with the funky and imaginative drink menu expected of Disneyland’s first publicly available bar.
The whole cantina is cleverly themed. It’s mostly standing-room with a few booths to sit in along the walls. The main bar wraps around a huge contraption in the middle. Hanging above, a massive tangle of pods, hoses, and tattered banners make it feel like this place has been here a long time.
Underneath, a whole mess of different tubes that eventually end in taps all around the bar, each one full of a pre-mixed drink. Clear tubes full of bubbling alien-colored liquids that are meant to be the drinks you’re being poured adorn seemingly everything. Peek inside the containers on the shelves and you’ll find all kinds of weird little creatures in jars, cages, and some even inside the drink storage!
Oga’s Cantina Drinks and Menu
While the drinks are on the pricier side– especially the alcoholic ones– it makes the time spent in the bar worth the wait. Hondo Ohnaka seemed to be a big fan of the Fuzzy Tauntaun in Pirate’s Price, although I don’t think you’ll get away with not paying your tab as he does. There are also some selections that have souvenir cups. Think Trader Sam’s, but totally Star Wars. One of the more unique items is a beer flight served in four Rancor teeth. Have you ever drunk out of an animal’s tooth before?
The bar is not only geared for those who imbibe because the cantina is available for all ages. There is an interesting non-alcoholic menu, One of the popular drinks is the Cliff Dweller, which comes in a collectible tiki-ish Porg mug. However, be prepared to spend a few “credits” here, because the collectible cups start at $35.
Food at the Cantina
If you’re feeling a little famished after spending time in a Galaxy Far, Far Away, then you might want to sample some Batuu Bites!
Or if you’re in the land for breakfast (you can still order off of the regular drink menu), take the high ground and experience the Mustafarian Lava Roll!
There are very few food choices in the Cantina. However, just around the corner, there’s a bunch of great food options right after you leave.
DJ R-3X: from Spinning Stars to Spinning Hits
And let’s not forget DJ R-3X! The original pilot of Star Tours, RX-24, has been given a new home and a new name. He is responsible for the in-house entertainment, playing the hottest tunes from all over the galaxy.
R-3X has a 3-hour long playlist modeled after 80’s synth-pop, which is definitely refreshing after walking through a land without any music. The music selection has at least one song from the Mos Eisley cantina band, Figrin D’an and the Modal Nodes.
We’re already wondering when R-3X is going to drop his mixtape, I want to be able to groove like him on a day-to-day basis.
This is the music clip you are looking for.
Our Conclusion
Oga’s Cantina is truly a gem and is clearly the hot spot in Galaxy’s Edge. Because it’s always sold out, we’d love to see another Cantina on the far side of Black Spire Outpost, perhaps with that iconic band, and double the capacity. More food too. While we enjoy the drinks, this would be a wonderful spot for other-worldly snacks and shared bites.
We also hope that Disney will eventually add some interactivity and alien actors to the Cantina, as well as Oga herself behind the bar. . . exactly like the original concept art showed:
