For the foreseeable future, it appears that Disney is set to dominate the box office with a continual stream of blockbusters. Don’t believe me? Let’s take a look at the major motion pictures they have in the works for the next 8 years. Alongside the acquisition of FOX, Disney also owns huge brands such as Marvel Studios, Pixar, and Lucasfilm . . . there will be no shortage of Disney-backed films headed your way.

The first FOX Searchlight release under Disney comes out May 10th. This biopic explores the life of the famous Lord of the Rings author, J. R. R. Tolkien.

Aladdin

This live-action remake of the Disney animated classic releases on May 24th. It’s a much-anticipated film starring Will Smith as the iconic Genie. This is sure to please new and old fans alike. We won’t have to wait long for this one. 

Dark Phoenix

Does anyone else see the similarity between this poster and Aladdin?

One of the few remaining FOX X-Men properties will hit cinemas on June 7th, surprising many who thought this would go straight to Disney+. It’s the end of an era for the mutants as this film is the culmination of the franchise.

Toy Story 4

Perhaps the final time we’ll see PIXAR’s most successful franchise on the big screen. The Toy Story gang have had many adventures over the years. We do know that the latest film has a new character named Sporky (a hand made spork doll)… What does this mean for the future of the toys? You can find out on June 21st. 

Stuber

Another FOX entry for July 12th, this comedy follows an Uber driver that gets caught in the middle of a dangerous situation as he learns his passenger is a hit man! 

The Lion King

July 19th will be the return of Pride Rock to the big screen as the Lion King gets its own live-action adaptation with an all-star cast. Featuring some of the classic songs and potentially some new additions, this is a huge cinema event. 

The Art of Racing in the Rain

Another FOX film which releases on August 8th, this adaptation of the 2008 novel tells the story of a race car driver from his dog’s point of view.

Ready or Not

A FOX Searchlight release before it’s closed down for good, this thriller about a bride caught in a creepy family game with no limits. It hits cinemas on August 23rd. 

Ad Astra

Another FOX holdover featuring a stellar cast including Brad Pitt and Tommy Lee Jones, this sci-fi flick about a son searching for his father across space, launches on September 20th. 

The Woman in the Window

A mystery thriller from FOX releasing on October 4th; a young girl witnesses a crime through a window and doesn’t know what to do!

Maleficent: Mistress of Evil

The Disney sequel about the Evil Queen from Sleeping Beauty will hit screens on October 18th. 

Ford v. Ferrari

A FOX biopic about the legendary battle between the two major car manufacturing companies is set for a November 15 release.

The popular Princess and Queen duo, Elsa and Anna, are back in cinemas this year on November 22nd as they encounter a new kind of power.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker

Lucasfilm treats us to the final installment of the latest Skywalker trilogy, as fans blast off to a galaxy far far away on December 20th. The end of the saga features the return of the villainous Emperor and favorites including Rey and Finn. Although the series is coming to an end, more Star Wars movies have been announced for the coming years. Could this film capture the top box-office spot of all time? 

Spies in Disguise

The Blue Skies Animation Studios film, from the deal with FOX, is releasing its spy-turned-pigeon film starring Tom Holland, Karen Gillan and Will Smith on December 25th. 

Movies coming in 2020

Underwater

Another Fox picture and this time it’s aiming for a January 10th release date. This takes us on a journey underwater as a team of researchers survive an earthquake. 

Kingsman: The Great Game

This spy prequel based on a graphic novel takes a look at the Kingsman Secret Service and its origins in the World War. This action flick releases on February 14th with an all-new cast.

Call of the Wild

The CGI/live-action film will follow the story of a Dog stolen from his owners and sold to freight haulers. The FOX film will release on February 21st. 

Onward

This secretive animated feature will release on March 6th. All we know so far is that the story will involve a fantasy world of sprites, trolls, unicorns and two elves searching for magic. 

Mulan 

Another live action reboot of an animated classic, and this time Mulan is on the agenda for Disney on March 27th. It’s yet to be confirmed whether the iconic songs will be returning, but Yifei Liu and Donnie Yen have been cast as the daughter and father duo. 

The New Mutants

FOX’s last ever Marvel picture will release on April 3rd. The X-Men related horror film will take a look at mutants who have been imprisoned in an asylum. 

Untitled Marvel Movie: May 1st

As the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) moves into its Fourth Phase, there are several Marvel movies on this list without titles at this time. We’re very interested to see the direction that the MCU will take with its transition after Avengers: Endgame.

Artemis Fowl

A magical movie based on the book of the same name, this Disney movie releases on May 29th. A boy and his butler kidnap fairies in order to ransom them, and restore the family fortune, and look for his missing father.

Untitled Pixar Movie: June 19th

Free Guy

A FOX action comedy about a bank teller that finds out he is inside a video game. The film sees Taika Waititi and Ryan Reynolds team up again and releases on July 3rd. 

Bob’s Burgers

The film version of the animated series will finally be released on July 17th. This will be a comedy musical featuring the main characters of the Adult Swim show. 

Jungle Cruise

The Rock and Emily Blunt team up adapt the Jungle Cruise ride to the big screen; this comedy adventures hits cinemas on July 24th and features one of the biggest practical sets put to film. . . but will it also result in changes to the attraction of the same name? 

The One and Only Ivan

August 14th sees another Disney film, this time about an Elephant and a Gorilla trying to escape captivity, as the titular primate puts together his past. 

Death on the Nile

The FOX sequel to the much-acclaimed Murder on the Orient Express; Kenneth Branagh returns to direct and star as the Agatha Christie hero Poirot. This releases on October 9th. 

Untitled Marvel Movie: November 6th

Ron’s Gone Wrong

On November 6th, we’ll see a new animated feature set in a world where robots are kids best friends, one child realizes that there is something not quite right about his own companion, Ron. 

Untitled Disney Animation Movie: November 25th

West Side Story

FOX and Amblin team up on December 18th to deliver a musical spectacular based on the popular stage production. Stephen Spielberg himself directs this imaginative retelling. 

Cruella

Another retelling of a classic tale, this time taking a leaf out of the Maleficent book as this 101 Dalmatians villain gets her own movie on December 23rd with Emma Stone in the lead.

Movies coming in 2021

From this point forward, the majority of the movies are untitled. While we may not have their exact names at this time, we do know there are several additions to existing IPs on the way.

A FOX and Blue Sky animated production set for March 5th, this graphic novel about a shapeshifter and a mad scientist is being adapted to the big screen.

With the abundance of titles coming, it’s good to see that there’s a lot of variety coming post-Disney-Fox merger. Although there are quite a few untitled movies at the moment, it is exciting to see a creative future ahead.
