Universal Studios Hollywood unveiled a brand new nighttime show at a special fan event last night. “Dark Arts at Hogwarts Castle” is a limited run projection show which will play April 13-28. It is expected to return for the summer, but no official dates have been announced yet.

This brand new show features the sinister side of the Wizarding World of Harry Potter. Instead of enchanting projections of waltzing ghosts and quidditch-playing wizards we’ve seen in the previous two shows, it’s monsters and skeletons cavorting and desecrating the castle this time around. Universal once again proves they have some of the most advanced projection tech in the business and are innovative with their special effects. Universal’s usage of drones in this show has also gained attention as it is one of the first Southern California parks to use them.

However, the show is not without some quirks to be worked out. At the end of the show, guests waited expectantly for something else to happen . . . until a cast member announced that it was over. A simple announcement or concluding moment would solve that issue easily. Due to the dark content, the show would be a perfect fit for the haunt season . . . if only Universal would keep the Wizarding World open for the Horror Night events.
