Our Star Wars land article today isn’t the only thing making waves in Disney news. Two new policy changes are set to take place on May 1st which are sure spark discussion. Joining the ranks of attractions state-wide, smoking will soon be banned in the Disneyland parks. In addition, a new stroller policy will cap the size and type of vehicles allowed inside the parks.

New Disneyland Stroller Policy

Starting May 1st, strollers will need to be smaller than 31 inches by 52 inches to be park-accessible.  That’s still quite large, but it’s a step to remove behemoth vehicles from busy park walkways.

In addition, Disney will put a complete halt to the explosion of wagons within the parks (whether they are pushed or pulled).

Is this an outdoor vending cart? No, it’s a baby wagon. But it’s just one of hundreds just like it swarming the parks in recent months.

Since some large strollers will be turned away, Disneyland will be offering new tandem strollers for rent and will also allow strollers to be checked if the guest doesn’t have the ability to return an oversized stroller to a car or hotel room.

Security will attempt to screen strollers for compliance before guests ever get to the parks.

Of course, Disney will continue to work with guests who have special needs and must use a specific device for medical reasons.

But on busy days like the one pictured below, there just isn’t room for massive strollers and wagons. Guests who wish to visit the parks should be aware of the new policy. But does it go far enough?

No Smoking Please

Beginning May 1st, smoking and vaping in the parks will be banned. The policy will extend to the esplanade and Downtown Disney as well. Guests must exit the secured area to smoke.

Disneyland has been slowly moving to this point for many years, consistently reducing the number of smoking areas until each park had only one. The final smoking area at Disneyland is located next to the entry to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. Imagine the complaints from guests queued up to enter the new land under a cloud of toxic second hand smoke.

In California, most beaches, restaurants, sporting venues and many entertainment facilities are already smoke free.
