Yesterday was the first day of Spring . . . and the first of the Spring Break crowds are beginning to materialize at the Disneyland Resort. Thankfully, Disney California Adventure has some projects hatching soon which will help soak up the crowds. We’ve got all sort of news for you today, new attractions, refurbishments, food, merchandise and much more.

Oh. . . and it appears that someone has let a Fox into the Mouse House.

Temple Tours

Although Indiana Jones is down for refurbishment until tomorrow, Disneyland is offering guided tours of the attraction’s queue from 12:30 PM to 5:30 PM today (March 21). Cast Members will be at the attraction’s entrance to take you on an adventure that explores the many elements in the detailed queue. We are hoping they show us how to decode the hieroglyphics on the walls. There are no reservations required. No word on what hours this experience will be offered.

Easter In The Parks

Spring doesn’t just bring flowers and rain, it also means new merchandise! There are new plushes and snacks around the resort.

Easter balloons, merchandise and snacks are just beginning to pop up.

2019 Grad Merchandise

New grad merch has been spotted. If you are an upcoming graduate or know one, grab the items you want early. While not everything sells out, the cute stuff usually does.

Captain Marvel Meet and Greet

Captain Marvel has found a permanent meet and greet in Hollywoodland at Disney California Adventure. They’ve repurposed the old Hollywood and Dine area and turned it into her “Hanger”. Unfortunately, you don’t get to go inside, so the whole thing is out in the sunlight.

The set decoration is quite impressive.

Captain Marvel also has some of her own special food offerings. The items are colorful. Lots of red and blue food coloring. Unfortunately, sometimes food meant for Instagram isn’t always the best tasting. Now that we have photos of these items, we likely won’t buy them again.

Out of the bunch, the best was probably the nachos. They were a little heavy on the pickle and onions, but they were edible and had an interesting flavor.

The ice cream sandwich was really disappointing. It was served to me melted, and it wasn’t anything to write home about. Vanilla ice cream with a flavorless cake outside.

The freeze was…confusing. The hyper-pigmented blue whipped cream really didn’t pair well with the dark red drink. It’s also overly sweet. But, again, it’s pretty.

Jessie’s Critter Carousel

Jessie’s critters are rearing to go round and round. The carousel animals have been installed, and testing has begun.

Won’t be long now.

Marvel Land

Something that will take quite a bit longer is the Marvel Land construction. It’s still a dirt lot.

The family web-slinging Spiderman dark ride is going into the old Bugs Life theater. We’ll hear more about this project at the upcoming D23 Expo.

Emotional Whirlwind

The first stages of assembly are beginning at the west end of Pixar Pier. More pieces of the ride have shown up and we await the first signs of the attraction’s ride swings.

This will be the swinging-est side of the park with three swing-style rides in a row: Emotional Whirlwind, Silly Symphony Swings, and Golden Zephyr.

Not so Silly Symphony Swings

The Silly Symphony Swings has been disassembled for maintenance again. It feels like they have to do this far more often than the same attraction in other parks. There is progress with more pieces have shown up on site. Base lights have been installed around the center axis.

Food & Wine

The Festival continues and we’re still trying things. It’s all for research purposes of course.

There are new signs in front of the stations explaining the new order from any booth feature. This is an extremely useful way to avoid extremely long lines. However, the most popular booth of all, Cluck-A-Doodle-Moo, doesn’t participate.

Now we’ve added the Impossible slider onto our list. Absolutely delicious. It’s not meat, but don’t let that stop you.

We also tried the Pepperoni Eggrolls again. Tasty, although not necessarily a “must-try” for me. Though I know many on our staff love this item.

Crowds Arrive

Spring break is already starting for some schools and the parks are feeling it. This is just the tip of the iceberg, expect traffic to increase for the next month or so.

This was the line for the Abominable Snowman’s soft freeze. And it was only 60 degrees out.

When there’s a line for The Little Mermaid, you know it’s busy.

Grizzly River Run Refurbishment

The ride has been refilled (albeit partially) and ride vehicles have been undergoing testing. It’s good to see the river flowing again; the kinetic energy of this attraction cannot be found elsewhere in any of the parks.

No water has been added to the geysers yet.

The water still has yet to reach the fill line. The basin holds A LOT of water.

There’s also some new merch designed for Grizzly. It’s good to see some attraction themed merchandise in this park, particularly some that I wouldn’t mind wearing.

Wharf Refill

The water has been restored to the Pacific Wharf. It had a heavy duty cleaning done, and as it acts as a reservoir for Grizzly River Run, it needed a little TLC.

However, it’s a shame to see that after only a few days, the lagoon is already filled with trash.

White Water Snacks

White Water Snacks reopened with an updated menu a while back, but we finally got the chance to check it out. The area has been opened up a bit and has new tables and chairs. For a quick-service restaurant, this is a great place to escape the crowds from the park and take in a quiet moment.

Disney Adds Fox to the Family

Disneyland Spring Break, Disneyland Resort Spring Update – Fox in the Mouse House

Well folks, it’s official, Fox is now part of Disney. The merger is complete.  And while there were pieces of Fox that Disney really needed (such as the reunification of Marvel characters and the distribution rights to the early Star Wars film), there are others that might not quite fit the Disney demographic. We are looking forward to seeing what Disney does with properties like the Simpsons, Family Guy, or the Academy Award Winning Shape of Water.  Some of this new content will end up on Disney’s new streaming service, the rest will likely remain on Hulu, which Disney now has majority ownership of.

Which of the Fox properties would be a good fit for the theme parks?  Deadpool in the new Marvel Land? Simpsons in ToonTown? Titanic the experience?

Let’s hear from you below!
