“The World is a carousel of color. Wonderful, wonderful color. A rainbow of imagination. A blue rolling sea. A red summer rose. A sunset in the Sky. Beauty untold is ours to behold, to dazzle your mind and your eye!”
The Wonderful World of Color has returned to Disney California Adventure after a long absence. The show suffered a technical incident in April of 2018 which necessitated a lengthy repair. Unfortunately, that left the park with only the Paint the Night Parade to lure guests away from Disneyland after dark. Once Paint the Night went on hiatus, California Adventure was left with no nighttime spectacular of its own and crowds would flee the park in the evening to visit Fantasmic and Fireworks at Disneyland. The return of the show is critical to healthy resort operations as we approach the opening of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge in a few months.
It’s the same show we knew from before, with no new additions at this time. It was nice seeing something familiar after such a long break. Everything seemed to be in working order, with a few tests happening within the hours leading up to the actual show.
For the first (and only) showing on Friday night, both Blue and Yellow FastPass sections were integrated. The group ‘color’ just determined the side you entered the viewing area from. You could then navigate to any spot you’d like. Unless you’re right up front in the ‘splash zone’, there are Food and Wine Festival lighting towers blocking a bit of the view—more of them in sight the further back you stand. We managed to get an unobstructed vantage point right up front and couldn’t resist capturing the kaleidoscope of color on display for you.

Securing a Spot for World of Color
There are a few ways to attend a World of Color showing. You’re able to book a FastPass by visiting the kiosks found on San Francisco Street next to The Little Mermaid attraction. Everyone in your party must be present, and the respective party will need to have already entered the park for that day, before their admission ticket can be scanned at the Fastpass distribution machine. If you receive different viewing sections, a Castmember will assist you.

Another way to attend is to reserve a special World of Color Dining Package at either the Carthay Circle restaurant or Wine Country Tattoria. After dining with one of these packages, you’ll be given a ticket for a secured spot for the show.
If you’re unable to do either of the ticketed options, or just prefer to be spontaneous while you’re at the resort, you can always wait in a ‘standby’ line to fill any unused viewing space.
Here’s the finale to the World of Color:
While we enjoyed the return of this colorful water show, we’d love to know what you think of Disney’s fountain spectacular. Will World of Color help balance nighttime crowds between Disneyland and California Adventure? Are you a fan of the show? Would you like to see additions or changes?
