Kevin has finally made her way to Walt Disney World! After seeing her in Disneyland’s Pixar Play Parade (with Russell in tow), it left me wondering when we’d see this fine-feathered friend at the kingdom of animals back in Florida…
When I caught wind of some Kevin sightings at WDW, my friend Diego and I ventured into Disney’s Animal Kingdom to track down this colorful and exotic bird. With the addition of Kevin, you can’t help but notice how many Up experiences this park has now!
Let’s take a look… the wilderness must be explored!
Heading into Discovery Island, you’ll find the HQ where you can register to become an official Wilderness Explorer!
Activities and challenges are sprinkled around the park, including observing animals in their habitats and experiencing certain attractions. Collecting all of the badges [stickers] takes some time, but can be completed over several days or visits.
Continuing on into Discovery Island, we found Dug & Russell greeting guests in their club house!
Not long after saying goodbye to Dug & Russell, we found our “snipe”!
I did my best trying to capture this roaming bird. She is able to bend her neck, blink, and even squawk a bit!
My favorite pose of hers is when she’s trying to “hide”, just like in the film – she closes her eyes and sticks her wings straight out. It’s the cutest thing but I couldn’t get a good shot of it this time!
Kevin just started appearing at Disney’s Animal Kingdom last week. Since she’s a wild bird, she has no designated times or meet & greet area. However, her handlers let her stop for a few photos here and there. You can find Kevin roaming through Discovery Island and Asia!
While in Asia, we decided to check out the recently-updated “UP! A Great Bird Adventure Show” at the Anandapur Theatre.
This show replaced Flights of Wonder, which had an almost-twenty year run.
The new show is very similar, offering a close-up look at unique birds from around the globe. UP! A Great Bird Adventure features most of the same cast of birds from over the years, but with a new story line, new hosts – and of course, Russel and Dug!
UP! A Great Bird Adventure is a 25-minute show running (or flying?) throughout the day.
Back outside the theatre, you’ll find Dug and Russell in stone-form!
Finishing up our journey, here is some of the newer Up merchandise I found!
With all of these Up experiences found at this park, there’s almost a whole land’s worth!
What do you think about the presence of this Pixar favorite at Disney’s Animal Kingdom? What kind of Up themed attraction would you want to see?
Remember… adventure is out there!
