Come on everybody get your ears on! Disney’s latest promotion is just about to mix things up at the resort until Star Wars land steals all the oxygen in the room this summer.  Get Your Ears On is a high energy celebration of Mickey & Minnie’s 90th birthday with a big menu of specialty food, merchandise, a revised Soundsational parade, and new projection and fireworks show(s).

Get Your Ears On

The Christmas decorations have come down and Mickey and Minnie themed banners, Monorail wraps, and more are going up to celebrate Mickey and his best gal.  We were at a press event last night to preview the offerings for Disneyland’s Get Your Ears On Campaign. Not everything was ready and we weren’t allowed to take photos or video of certain things . . . the full campaign launches this Friday the 18th (Soundsation will return on the 25th).  We’ll be back at the park on Friday, along with swarms of locals, to see the official launch of the new festival.

Get Your Ears On Merchandise

In honor of Disney’s dynamic duo, an expansive line of merchandise has been released. There’s a “Get Your Ears On” line, a Minnie Mouse dots line, a food pattern line, there’s even a spirit jersey for dogs on the way.

Folks on our Instagram really seemed to like these new popcorn buckets.

If you are of a certain age, that new spirit jersey with the dots probably looks a lot like a Wonder Bread wrapper to you.

Get Your Ears On Food

Over the last couple of years, Disney has really expanded their festival-type offerings. Folks love food . . . I love food . . . and there’s some really yummy stuff rolling out for this campaign.  Most of the specialty food items feature Mickey in one way or another, some with hidden Mickeys.

The Celebration Macaron below is filled with edible confetti, including pop rocks. It’s really good and lots of fun.

The cake was moist and has lemon and raspberry flavors. It’s intended to look like a new cake float in the Soundsational parade.

Soundsational Returns

The popular Disneyland parade returns with some new surprises. A giant Mickey shaped float will lead the parade.  And a birthday cake float will also join the celebration.

Mickey’s Mix Magic

We have a feeling that the thing which will draw the most attention is the new nightly celebration, Mickey’s Mix Magic.  During the week, the show features projections on Main Street and Small World facades (and later this spring on the Fantasmic water screens as well).  However, on select nights there will also be fireworks!

The show features high energy electronic dance versions of Disney songs. Disney hopes the crowds will be dancing in the streets. The video highlights below doesn’t show you all the goodness. In addition to the EDM tracks and cute animations, there’s also bubbles, lasers, special lighting and more to turn the energy up to 11. The show felt unlike anything I’d seen before at Disney and I love that.  I wasn’t as fond of the show without fireworks, but I can recommend that on non-fireworks nights you try to see it at Small World, which provides the perfect screen for the projections and plenty of light towers to keep the party rockin’.

The boss has a confetti suit, while Minnie is rocking the dots (but looks like a gumball machine to me) – it’s a fun new costume change for our favorite mice.

This is just an initial look. We’ll be back with more from Disneyland and the Get Your Ears On celebration very soon!
