As of today, Disney has officially canceled plans for the Downtown Disney Hotel. The future of the west end of Downtown Disney is now in the hands of Imagineering for redevelopment concepts. Some new shops and establishments are being worked on right now.

Disneyland Resort spokesman, Liz Jaeger, shared the following statement regarding the cancelation of the project:

“We’ve taken the time to review the economics of our proposed Four Diamond hotel for Anaheim and have made the final decision to cancel the project. While this is disappointing for many, the conditions and agreements that stimulated this investment in Anaheim no longer exist and we must therefore adjust our long-term investment strategy.”

While it sounds like the reasons behind the decision were mostly financial, many of you are likely thrilled as the new hotel design was not popular with our readers (see poll results below).  We are waiting on news about what direction the area will take in the future.

Over 3,000 of you voted in our poll about the proposed 4th hotel:

Happy, sad, relieved? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below. And share what you would like to see end up on the west end of Downtown Disney now that the space is free for redevelopment.
