D23: The Official Disney Fan Club, will be having two separate panels on two separate afternoons, PLUS a fan meet for pre-registered Gold Members only, no signups nor Gaslamp-area events, sadly. But D23 Expos are crowded enough! They need to add another two days, not another two thousand attendees, amirite?

Panel: Celebrating 90 Years of Mickey Mouse with D23: The Official Disney Fan Club
Friday, July 20, from 4:45 PM – 5:45 PM,  Room 6A

“Beginning with Steamboat Willie, Mickey’s career has taken him on an epic journey that has endeared him to fans around the world. D23’s Justin Arthur hosts a panel including Bret Iwan (One of Mickey Mouse’s two main voice actors), Becky Cline (Director, The Walt Disney Archives), and Mark Henn (Master Disney Animator who first animated Mickey in Mickey’s Christmas Carol), who look at Mickey’s legendary roles in animated films and television shows, the Magic Kingdoms, and beyond!” says the announcement. (Parentheses mine).

Room 6A, 2017. ComicCon Guide

Some people are taking a dinner break, but most aren’t; luckily, this is day one of Hall H spectaculars and they’re up against Bumblebee (New Transformers Movie) and people waiting for SONY Pictures’ slate and AMC’s Preacher. In 7A, Women of Star Wars is going to split the group. In Ballroom 20 Amazon Prime Video Showcase is still going on, so you’ll have a pretty good chance, but I wouldn’t cut it too close – this room is good-sized but far from huge. Be there two hours early. Attend the panel before: it’s Ducktales! Woo-Hoo! They’re an amazing group of people, the panel will be hilarious, and these guys usually give out a cool present, like a poster, just because you showed up! At the end of the panel, go to the back door, tell them you’re staying, and they’ll give you your gift ticket and tell you where to redeem it – usually either the Sails Pavilion or the hotel next door, where they do the blood drive.

There’s going to be so much to do and see and a lot of big, splashy things going on. If I were attending this year, these would be my two “Don’t Miss” ones, because you know when D23 puts on a show, they do a great one, and they do it with class.  Go for me.

Panel: 25 Years of Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas with D23: The Official Disney Fan Club

Saturday, July 21, from 7:45 PM -8:45 PM, Room 6BCF

“D23 pulls the curtain back on the classic stop-motion Halloween (and Christmas!) favorite, Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas, with a behind-the-scenes retrospective panel featuring the team that brought the movie to life 25 years ago, including Henry Selick (Director), Kelly Asbury (Art Director), Edie Ichioka (Editor), and Anthony Scott (Animator).”

This is going up against the World Famous SDCC Masquerade, PLUS neither Tim Burton nor Danny Elfman or any other of the stars will be making an appearance. Also, it’s pretty late. I think this one would be easy IF the subject matter weren’t so crazy popular with the Con Crowd. Have a late afternoon snack or very early dinner and be in the line at least two hours early for this one. Disabled seating is good for this hall too, but – Disney crowds. Before this is the podcase Talks Machina with a panel about Critical Role, a game they play of Dungeons and Dragons. Not Disney whatsoever. Anyway, I much prefer @TheZoneCast aka The Adventure Zone, especially “Balance”. The first graphic novel for Balance “Here be Gerblins, comes out July 17~

Here is the link TO GET YOUR 2018 SDCC GUIDEBOOK WITH MAP. Go directly to page 10 and you will see not only both rooms, but exactly how the queues (lines) are laid out this year. If you are disabled, go to A lobby the very first thing before you get your tickets and register THERE. They wlll pick everything up for you. Do not listen to anyone on the outside. (But be polite so you don’t get maced.) I have been going for over a decade. This, of course, is the first year I’m not going (except to a private event Wednesday night.) Go to the disabled area. Go straight to the disabled area. Do not pass GO, etc.

, Fab News: D23@SDCC,New Purge, Disney Dailies and More!

Also, if you are disabled, get there at about 7AM and park at 6th and Parkade at the very bottom of 6th st. by Petco Park. They’ll wave everybody away until they see your placard. It’s ridiculously close, so you have to get there ridiculously early, but there’s great sit-downs for breakfast nearby, especially the Broken Yolk.

Remember: Hydrate. Comfortable shoes, even if you are cosplaying. You can’t see and do everything, so have second and third choices. If they have to move panelists/autographers, they have to stop crowds to do so without notice to attendees and through many different entrances and exits so there is no set pattern. This is for their safety. Consider this and include it when you are figuring times from place to place. If someone is hurrying somewhere and doesn’t stop to give you an autograph or take a photo with you, it is not because they are being mean nor snobby; they are literally preventing an accident. San Diego Comic-Con has seen tramplings and stabbings and so all autographs are done in the Sails Pavilion, and all seating is first-come, first-serve even if you are a member of the Press. The only exception is disabled and you still have to wait in a separate line; when those seats are gone, they’re gone.

“The First Purge” maze at Universal Studios Hollywood’s “Halloween Horror Nights,” beginning Friday, September 14, 2018

So far, Universal Studios has announced two new mazes for Halloween Horror Nights:

  • “Stranger Things,” from the hugely-popular Netflix series.
  • “Trick ‘r Treat,” based on cult classic directed by Michael Dougherty.

Behind every tradition lies a revolution. This year, “Halloween Horror Nights” (click the link to sign up for updates) Universal Studios Hollywood witnesses “The First Purge” with a brand-new maze based on Universal Pictures’ hit new thriller of the same name – now in theaters – that unleashed the country’s very first government-sanctioned crime spree, making lawlessness legal one night per year for 12 horrifying hours.

“Halloween Horror Nights” begins on Friday, September 14, 2018.

Guests will be at the mercy of luck and speed as they attempt to outsmart and outlive the anarchy.

  • “Alexa, words are useless!”
