I had a chance to check out the new Pixar Play Zone at Disney’s Contemporary Resort, which is walking distance from the front entrance of the Magic Kingdom.
Kids, ages 4–12, can now star in an adventure-packed evening filled with interactive fun, arcade games and dinner. The new Walt Disney World entertainment experience is a pilot program that takes place nightly from 6-10:30 p.m. It transports young guests to a world full of excitement and adventure with their favorite characters from Disney•Pixar animated films “Toy Story” and “The Incredibles!”
The cost for this experience is $65, but let me tell you why this is a bargain by asking you if you’ve ever eaten at one of the higher end restaurants at Disney and had a child spout the words “I’m boooooooored!” Once you remove the cost of the dinner that is provided, and the money you save from not sending the kids to a paid arcade, the real cost is practically nothing to gain a romantic night with a partner… or a really long hot tub and nap party while the kids play with their Pixar pals.
Pixar Play Zone encompasses several elaborately themed spaces.
Big time fun awaits in The Living Room. There’s Space Ranger Training where kids learn what it takes to become a Jr. Space Ranger of Star Command, including how to master the call of the Space Ranger, “To infinity and beyond!”
After going through a portion of the 30 min Space Range training, I’m happy to announce that I am one of the few adults that now holds a “Jr. Space Ranger of Star Command” title, and am fully capable of recording log entries, adapting to alien gravity, firing my wrist laser (but never at friends), and using a jetpack to blast off to “Infinity and Beyond”.
Then, Woody and Jessie will show them the ropes of the Wild West during Woody’s Roundup – complete with a sing-along for a rootin’ tootin’ good time. Around the corner, toys of all kinds are waiting to play in Bonnie’s Play Room.
Radiator Springs Racetrack is where youngsters can build their own racecars and send them down a soapbox derby racetrack in the Piston Cup Derby Races.
The evening builds to an Incredibles Super Dance Party where kids learn super sweet moves with Mr. Incredible and Mrs. Incredible.
I had a chance to speak with Show Director, Tony Giordano, who comes from the Disney Cruise line, to bring an activity like this to the land. Tony expressed that this will be a gender inclusive experience that will be fun for everyone, with several spaces themed after different Pixar films.
All of the video games types inside are aimed towards physical active play, and not passive play, and mostly interactive (I.e.- basketball, racing, Skee Ball, Guitar Hero, etc.), and counselors will be on hand throughout the night.
If you’re interested in booking or learning more: Doors open for registration at 5 p.m. nightly. Children must be toilet-trained. Activities and entertainment are subject to change. The immersive Pixar Play Zone experience costs $65 plus tax per child. Availability is limited and reservations are strongly recommended, by calling 407-824- KIDS (5437).
Would you be willing to pay $65 to free yourself from the kids for an evening? And would your child enjoy this cruise ship-like activity in the shadow of the theme parks?
