Actual Trailer Trailer Released for The BFG
I never read the book growing up so I never think of “Big Friendly Giant” when I see those initials. Steven Spielberg and Disney take on Roald Dahl’s weird, scary (but I repeat myself, that’s what was so damn cool about Roald Dahl, right?) story about a clever girl, a good giant (Mark Rylance), a bunch of bad giants with awesomely disgusting names (Bill Hader and Jemaine Clement play a couple of them), the Queen of England and her maid. Gigantic adventure ensues. (Not to be confused with “Gigantic”, the upcoming animated film nor “Gigantic” the catchy song by the Pixies. Big, big love. I hear it in my head every time they mention it.)
Don’t Go to Universal Hollywood Today
…unless you already have a pass or a ticket. Tickets for today’s official opening day of The Wizarding World of Harry Potter have been sold out for weeks now. If you show up without one, you are courting some hippogriff-sized disappointment. My pal (and MiceChat op-ed writer) Jon Nadelberg and I will be going on the Warner Brothers Studio Tour. I hope Yakko, Wakko and Dot are in the water tower! They’re on Netflix, too, as of earlier this week!

It’s going to be here for a long, long time, and they are not going to run out of Butterbeer. If you are dying to at least see what’s happening over at WWoHP, check out MiceChat’s broomstick-to-bludger coverage. Salazar’s suspenders, what an amazing digital mapping show!
Price Break on AP DCA Food & Wine Festival Cards!
They’ve heard you! Annual Passholders now only pay 39.00 for the collectible dated Tasting Card with lanyard, which gets them six different dishes from any of the eight Festival Marketplace booths. Prices vary from 4.00 to 8.00 per plate, but if you stick to using it only for plates of 6.50 or more, you’ll break even or make a bargain, plus have a souvenir of your day. For less expensive dishes, use the handy Food & Wine Festival gift card on a coil bracelet.

Dave Avanzino at Off the Page This Weekend!!!
Nothing makes a festival more festive than fun, creative, colorful works of art. Dave Avanzino takes our shared (that’s us and his, fellow Disney fanatics) passion and his mega knowledge of Disney, Disney attraction and theme park signage and the history thereof (he was one of the guides on the Yesterland Tour, remember?). So, anyway, he does these cool…oh, heck, let me just show you:

He will arrive at 2:00 PM, and will be happy to sign anything purchased earlier. Both #1 of each edition will be available at store opening.
Which One(s) Did You Take Home?
Dusty Sage asked a simple question on Facebook: which version of Star Wars: The Force Awakens should he buy? For extra content, several people said the Target version, especially those interested in weaponry. A couple just got the regular version. Some were steamed that they would have to buy the 3-D version later. Some, like me, are going to get all of them; I’m getting them one at a time. I cheated by getting my regular copy as a review copy, instead of buying it last as originally planned. I still pre-ordered my digital copy way back when, but on the day of, I went and picked up my Steelbook, because it is the one with the most Kylo Ren and Captain Phasma all over it. I’m nothing if not predictable. How about you?

If you haven’t seen the home version yet, it holds up on the small screen. In fact, it has fantastic rewatchability. It’s easier to appreciate the little moments between characters, subtle reactions to each other and to environments, and freeze-frame Rey’s vision so you can try to figure out what each scene is. Good luck. If you haven’t seen the film at all yet, it’s a treat, even if you haven’t seen its predecessors, you don’t have to “catch up” to get the story. The characters have depth and the actors all have the chops to make them watchable. If you loved the Star Wars that came out in 1977, I’m pretty sure you’re going to love this one. It has the same feel, and hits many of the same beats, both emotionally and story-wise. Director J.J. Abrams aimed for the same “feel” in this film as in the first release, and it shows. Most definitely worth the purchase.

But which purchase? For no-frills, get the digital download. If you want a hard copy, that’s where your choices expand. The only hard copy with extra bonus content is Target; the extra content, however, is digital, not a hard copy. The case is cardboard gatefold. Wal-Mart’s has a BB-8 slipcover. TechTimes actually has an entire article about this, but in the end, it all comes down to what you love. If you missed out on the Disney Store lithos like I did, (I forgot to pre-order when I got paid!), they’re on ebay for 20-25.00 right now. I’ll get them eventually. They’re pretty swell.

Because It’s Magic
When he’s not looking for the perfect Star Wars Blu-Ray set, our dear Dusty Sage is toying around with the new Facebook Live feature. Yesterday, he took a group of about 7,000 people on a live video tour of Disneyland from Main Street to the castle. He takes his time, visiting shops, the train station, and letting the Disneyland experience unfold. From the hundreds of comments from folks near and far, this little video adventure really struck a nerve. And best of all, although it is no longer “live,” we can still watch the video (or rewatch it). If you follow MiceChat’s Facebook Page, you’ll get notifications the next time we go LIVE. I promise.
But for now, here’s the zombie version:
