The big Thanksgiving holiday week has come and gone at the Disneyland Resort. Over the holiday week Disneyland tried out a new increased entertainment schedule that saw the park running two showings of its nightly fireworks show. The experiment was a test to see if two fireworks shows per night, with the first running at 6:30 p.m., would help thin park crowds earlier before the second show ran at 9:30. As Disneyland determines whether or not the twice-nightly fireworks shows were successful in managing the crushing combination of holiday and 60th anniversary crowds, the parks return to shorter hours and regular entertainment schedules this week before they once again see big attendance increases as the Christmas and New Year holidays draw close. Today we take a relaxing post-Thanksgiving look at some more holiday offerings in the parks and at the Hotels of the Disneyland Resort.

In the midst of the recent Star Wars and holiday mania, we forgot our own birthday! The holidays are in full swing at Disneyland, with prep now underway for the park’s annual Candlelight Processional while returning favorites like “A Christmas Fantasy” Parade entertain guests daily.

Disneyland was already getting ready for its annual Candlelight Processional over the weekend, with the first bits of set-up up on the platform. Candlelight will take place this weekend, with two performances each night on December 5 and 6. Disneyland has not officially announced who the celebrity narrator is this year, but it is rumored to be actress Geena Davis on Saturday and actress Lana Parrilla on Sunday.

One notable change this year is the removal of Geppetto and Pinocchio from the Santa’s Toy Factory float. Green Army Men from Toy Story have taken their place.

In the context of the parade, this makes some sense. The Santa’s Toy Factory Float has long been flanked by smaller Toy Story-themed floats. The Green Army Men help make this whole section of the float more clearly Toy Story.

Hotels for the Holidays

The parks are the only places celebrating the holidays. The Hotels of the Disneyland Resort are also decked out for the season and each Hotel got some enhancements worth checking out this year.

The Grand Californian Hotel’s lobby is even more spectacular during the holidays with its towering Christmas tree. New this year, a lovely new stained glass bench circles the entire tree.

Back for Disneyland’s 60th Anniversary, Walt Disney’s Little Man of Disneyland is a reprint of the classic 1955 Little Golden Book that tells the story of a leprechaun named Patrick Begorra who lives in the Anaheim orange groves that would later become Disneyland. Mickey and Donald convince Patrick to let them build Disneyland in his orange groves after they show him the fantastic plans for the park. The little $5 book is really a just clever vintage marketing piece for the then-under construction park but 60 years later is still wildly charming and filled with spectacular illustrations typical of Disney’s classic Little Golden Books.
