Hi there ho there MiceChatters and Fabtopians! Lots of news bites for you today.
MiceChat Hits the FandomVerse!
FandomVerse Expo is a three day multi-fandom convention at the Pioneer Event Center in Lancaster, California, taking place this weekend, September 4th through 6th.
“Our goal is to enlighten, inform and entertain you while celebrating all areas of fandom: Anime, Comics, Sci-Fi, Horror, Fantasy, Gaming, Costuming and more. Set course for FandomVerseExpo.com and join us. It’s more than a convention – It’s a philosophy!”
While most programming will be at the Pioneer Event Center, there will also be some events and displays at several nearby hotels. See guest relations at the convention or fandomverseexpo.com for more information. Parking is free!

A Move Up for Headley
Remember last month when I told you about Christine McCarthy stepping into Jay Rasulo’s place? Now she’s Senior Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer, and stepping up into her former position is the former Assistant Treasurer, Jonathan S. Headley. He’s been there for eleven years, so he’s comfortable there, knows the landscape and culture well, and works well with the existing team. He didn’t come up through the company, which is what I usually prefer, but at least he’s not an outside hire and complete stranger to the Disney culture.

Learning in a Box
Last week, KhanAcademy.org and Pixar joined forces to release Pixar in a Box, a series of lessons that enable students and teachers to work together using Pixar creative concepts. Khan Academy is completely free and open to anyone, so if you want to learn how to do some cool Pixar stuff,
From Disney Post:
“’Learning makes us beginners again,’ said Ed Catmull, president, Pixar and Walt Disney Animation Studios. ‘In my experience, creativity involves missteps and imperfections, which is one more reason it is important for every one of us to keep learning—in order to remain flexible and keep our brains nimble. By working with Khan Academy on Pixar in a Box, we hope to encourage the excitement of learning and creative thinking for middle and high school students and to provide the tools to do it.’”
Mannequins to Morimoto Asia
September 30 is a new day – well, night – for the former Pleasure Island Canvas Works Fabrication Plant, when Morimoto Asia, another Patina Restaurant Group eatery on Disney property, this time with former Iron Chef Masaharu Morimoto, officially opens to the public. The redesign of the club by Studio V keeps enough of the spirit of the original club to make us old Islanders a little misty, with a modern Asian-American sensibility that is really exciting and beautiful. I can’t wait to see it in person this October!

Force Friday is Tomorrow Night!
Way back when I first started doing Fab News, I talked about Force Friday, and it seemed like it was never going to come. It’s here! At midnight Friday night September 4/Saturday, September 5, at World of Disney here at the Disneyland Resort and at Once Upon a Toy at Downtown Disney at Walt Disney World. It’s not a ticketed event, but show up early, it’s probably going to be crowded. Lots of new Star Wars stuff, but at these two locations, there will be things there will absolutely not be anyplace else.

Magic bands at Walt Disney World ONLY.

What are you waiting for? Start warming up for your shopping, learning, and all of those autumny lattes that are starting to appear nowadays. I hope you have a fantastic Labor Day weekend and I’ll see you again next Tuesday (unless you come out to see us this Saturday at the FandomVerse Expo!).
