Today we deliver an exciting update from Six Flags Magic Mountain. This will be our last construction update on Twisted Colossus before it begins testing and opens to the public. There’s finally an official opening date for this highly anticipated attraction! The entire Steampunk District that leads to the redone coaster is enjoying final touches as summer 2015 rapidly approaches. We also take a scroll through the park to look at the current enjoyable lack of crowds, the preparations for Grad Nite parties, and the general beauty at this particular Six Flags property. Ready? Set? Let’s get twisted.
Twisted Colossus
It was announced on Wednesday that the target opening date for Twisted Colossus will be Saturday May 23rd. Testing for each of the trains has begun and will continue every night from now until opening. The construction schedule was rather tight but management seems optimistic that soft openings could even happen if everything continues on the same aggressive schedule. Let’s peek behind the walls, shall we?

We see here the brand new “Steampunk” applied to the theatre here.

The gourmet sandwich shop has been repainted a powder blue and the surrounding area is being completely re-landscaped.

Twisted juniper topiary, explosive bird of paradise, agapanthus and purple lantana seem to be the staple plants in the area.

Here we see the entrance to Twisted Colossus so far. It appears that they are pulling the colors back on the station while letting the technicolor trains pop in the bright sun.

A close up look of the trains.

Now for a look at the completed track…

Then, the blue will crest a hill as the green track hits the Zero-G element.

Some interesting facts of the construction.
- “Top Gun Stall” – an inversion where the train slows down upside down
- Western Hemisphere’s first “High Five” – where two trains pass through an overbanked turn facing each other with the illusion that you can reach out and “high five” other riders
- Zero G Roll where track twists 360 degrees
- A staggering 116-foot drop at an amazing 80-degrees
- 18 airtime hills
- Two lift hills
- Four minutes of thrills on nearly 5,000 feet of track – longest hybrid coaster in the world
- Height Restriction: Must be at least 48” tall
- Location: Twisted Colossus will be the focal point of the newly themed area where guests can expect the unexpected through whimsical experiences in entertainment, food and retail.
- Manufacturer: Rocky Mountain Construction
We are eager to take a spin on this re-invented coaster on Saturday May 23rd. Who will be there to join us?
Around the Park
Now we take a stroll around the park to take in the sights and see what is happening. To be honest, this is the perfect time to visit Magic Mountain. The park looks wonderful and there is hardly anybody there. The longest waits we saw were those at X2 and Tatsu, both of which maxed out at 20 minutes. The new Full Throttle coaster was a walk-on.

There you have it. If you have a season pass to Six Flags, get out there now and take advantage of the pre-summer crowds. It’s a fabulous time to go for a spin on some world-class coasters. We will be returning on Monday to scratch your Disneyland itch. See you then!
