Disney’s newest ship, the Disney Wish set sail in summer of 2022, but there are still two more ships in the Wish class on the way and one additional ship Disney purchased from another company while still under construction. The next ship and new private island beach club are set for a 2024 debut.
We have all the details for you below, including brand-new images and information about Lighthouse Point…
Welcome the Disney Treasure
The Disney Treasure will be Disney’s 6th cruise ship and will set sail in 2024. Imagineers have dreamed up a new design concept inspired by the theme of adventure, celebrating Walt Disney’s love of exploration. Similar to the Disney Wish, the 3-deck atrium is known again as the Grand Hall, and is inspired by a gilded palace, drawing real-world inspiration from Asia and Africa, while paying homage to the fantasy land of Agrabah. Aladdin and Jasmine will sit on their magic carpet at the center, as the ship’s signature statue.
At the last D23 Expo in 2022, the Treasure’s name reveal video briefly showed portholes with Coco’s Miguel, Moana, and the Hitchhiking Ghosts… could a Haunted Mansion themed area be in the works for the Disney Treasure? We sure hope so!
While not a lot has been officially announced for the Disney Treasure, it is based on the design and will have nearly the same layout as the Disney Wish. Expect mostly the same experience but with some updated themes to some of the venues. Take a look at the Disney Wish deck by deck (HERE).
UPDATED! Lighthouse Point – Disney’s Newest Private Island Destination
And in the Bahamas, progress continues on Disney Cruise Line’s new private island destination at Lighthouse Point, which will bring the natural beauty and rich culture of the Bahamas to life. The island is scheduled to be completed in summer of 2024.
Before his WDI retirement, Joe Rohde led the development of the project located on the island of Eleuthera’s Lighthouse Point. Back at the D23 Expo in 2019, Rohde said Disney will be relying on local artists, local culture, and local food to create an experience that honors and celebrates the local Bahamian culture. Disney’s presence on the island will be done in the same vein as Disney’s Aulani Resort in Hawaii — with special consideration of the local environment, peoples, and cultures. Josh D’Amaro (head of Disney Parks, Experiences & Products) said the company is still going in that direction.
Two of Joe Rohde’s colorful concepts were among the first images shared by Disney in 2019:
While very similar, the style of the Lighthouse Point project seems to have been altered a bit since the early Joe Rohde days to be a little less Avatar-like and a little more Bahamian inspired. Disney also claims an inspiration from “the pageantry and history of Junkanoo parades.”
Newly released Lighthouse Point images and island information (3/9/23) below:
The buildings of Lighthouse Point feature sweeping architecture and saturated hues. Disney claims the style is inspired by nature and created in partnership with local artists.
“The curvilinear buildings will at first appear as Bahamian shells scattered along the shoreline. Upon closer inspection, guests will discover artistic expressions of the native flora and fauna of The Bahamas and the pageantry and history of Junkanoo parades. Throughout the destination, references to playful folklore characters will evoke the warmth and charm of the local culture.”
Disney expects to get at least 90 percent of the beach club’s electricity needs from onsite solar. A further commitment to the environment was to designed the pier to avoid the need for dredging. Elevated walkways will help limit impact on the landscape.
With 5 ships now in the Disney fleet, a 6th on the way in 2024, and a 7th ship a couple years later (an 8th ship will be permanently located overseas for non-USA departures and is not expected to visit Lighthouse Point), Disney needs far more beach space than the existing private island at Castaway Cay can provide.
Like Castaway Cay, Lighthouse point will feature a family beach, kids play areas, activities, an adult beach, private cabanas, Spa services, and market-style dining.
A water play area for kids will include slides and fountais and also a space for toddlers.
There will also be a Little Mermaid kids club (for Children ages 3 to 12) staffed by Disney Cruise Line counselors so the adults can have some kid-free time on the beach.
A Bahamian art and culture pavilion featuring special programs and local artists will provide visitors to Lighthouse Point opportunities to learn and celebrate the traditions and natural beauty of The Bahamas.
Additional recreational activities include a covered gaming pavilion; a volleyball court and gaga ball pit; watercraft and bicycle rentals; nature trails for hiking and biking; and more.
North of the family area will be an adult-exclusive beach — a glorious stretch of sun-drenched serenity complete with a dedicated dining area for convenient access to food and drinks throughout the day, plus six private cabanas available by reservation.
Set away from the activity of the main family area, a peaceful beach along the south-western shore will be lined with 20 premium family cabanas available to rent, including four double cabanas that accommodate larger groups and offer massage services.
Port Adventures into Eleuthera will be available. Disney’s portion of the island is at the very bottom tip near Bannerman Town (see map below):
Lighthouse Point will be available on select sailings beginning in the summer of 2024. More details coming soon.
