In honor of the 50th anniversary of the Walt Disney Archives, “Adventure Thru the Walt Disney Archives,” an all-new documentary highlighting some of the Studio’s most iconic set pieces and props, will premiere on Disney+ on November 19.
The documentary will take viewers on an adventure through the company’s vast history and rarely seen parts of the extensive Disney Archives, as well as its theme parks and Studio lot, through an engaging, historical lens.
The film debuted last June in honor of the Archives’ 50th anniversary and has previously only been seen by D23 Gold Members.
According to Disney, legendary producer and host Don Hahn (“Beauty and the Beast,” “The Lion King,” “Maleficent”) will have insightful conversations with Walt Disney Archives director Becky Cline and other members of the Archives team. Each stop on the adventure will offer a look at some of the iconic treasures that have played a role in shaping The Walt Disney Company.
“Making this film was my Disney ‘fanboy’ dream come true,” says Hahn. “The Walt Disney Archives is packed with hidden treasures, and I had incredible access to them all.”
Founded by Disney Legend Dave Smith on June 22, 1970, the Archive was created to “collect, preserve and make available for research the historical materials relating to Walt and the company he founded.”
Directed by John Gleim, the documentary film features new interviews with Disney Executive Chairman Bob Iger, Marvel Studios’ Kevin Feige, Pixar’s Pete Docter, film historian Leonard Maltin, Disney Legend Mark Hamill, and many more.
“Walt Disney was one of the first to pull back the curtain,” says Hamill in the film’s trailer, “And show how movies and television were made.”
