The History of the Tree of Life

The Tree of Life has been the centerpiece of Animal Kingdom park since its opening day on April 22, 1998. Construction took 12-months. The tree is 147 feet tall, 50 feet wide at its base, and more than 100,000 leaves cover its 8,000+ branches.

In 2016, Tree of Life started to come to life at night with Tree of Life Awakenings. Projecting images of animals onto the tree, they come to life. Special shows have been added over time, including animals inspired by The Lion King and a Holiday addition.
