Conditions are improving rapidly in California, thanks in part to an aggressive vaccination effort and continued strict mask and social distancing efforts. So, even as other states see a new surge, California’s cases continue to decline.

The state is approaching a new vaccination milestone which could result in changes to the tier process and a move for Orange County into the final and least restrictive Yellow Tier.

Irvine Mayor Farrah Khan (Irvine is located in Orange County near Disneyland) describes the possibility of a rapid move from Orange Tier, which we just reached last week, to the Yellow Tier. Her update was posted following a call with the other Mayors of Orange County and the Orange County Health Care Agency:

Here’s What Yellow Tier Would Mean To Disneyland

Orange County is currently in the Orange Tier, which permits theme parks to operate in a 25% capacity mode – That’s 25% park capacity, 25% indoor attraction capacity, 25% indoor shopping capacity, and 25% indoor dining capacity.  At Yellow Tier, Disneyland would be able to bump park attendance up to 35%, with a doubling of restaurant dining capacity, but no increase in indoor attraction capacity (which could mean longer lines).

Outside the theme parks, in Downtown Disney, shopping would be unrestricted and indoor dining would be at 50% capacity of full conditions.

California has been relaxing each of the tiers for meeting vaccination milestones. At 2 million doses, requirements for tier advancement were relaxed, allowing Orange County to move to Orange Tier earlier than expected. The state is now approaching the next milestone on 4 million doses which the Orange County Health Authority believes may move the county into Yellow Tier.

Disneyland is reopening on April 30th and has been staffing and preparing the park for a 25% guest capacity. If the county moves to Yellow Tier before that date, Disney will likely need some additional time before bumping its own capacity beyond the 25% level to accommodate the time needed for additional restaffing, training, and expansion of park services.
