In recognition of Women’s History Month, Walt Disney World has put together a showcase called “Celebrate HER Story” at Disney Springs. Set your focus on the women in the arts and support women in business, all while tantalizing your tastebuds and learning about women in Disney history.
Focus on the Arts
Throughout the month-long celebration various artist will make appearances at the Marketplace Co-Op and The Art of Disney, including Julia Gabielov, Meredith Young, Paolo Gracey, and Jasmine Beckett Griffith. Additionally, every Wednesday night at the Waterside Stage is a Focus on strong female vocalists and acts, who lend their voices in inspiring stories and music.
Focus on Shopping
Retailers throughout Disney Springs are supporting women’s empowerment from athletic achievements to product lines. Some of the stores participating include Alex and Ani, Lovepop, Pele Soccer, Ron Jon Surf Shop, and Vera Bradley.
Erin McKenna’s Bakery NYC, Rustic Cuff, Sugarboo & CO., and Vivoli il Gelato are all taking the spotlight as female-owned businesses.
Focus on Your Taste Buds
From Amorette’s Patisserie to The Ganachery and Sprinkles there is an abundance of delicious treats created by women. There’s even an Elastigirl inspired treat at Marketplace Snacks.
And don’t miss the “Her Hops Flight” featuring women-owned/led local breweries at City Works Eatery & Pourhouse.
Focus on the History of Women in Disney
The Wonderground at the Marketplace Co-Op and The Art of Disney is where you will find stories of some of the groundbreaking women in Disney history.
One of the familiar faces in this exhibit is Disney Imagineering Legend, Mary Blair. She is best known for her work on “it’s a small world,” and also had a strong influence across several of Disney’s animated films, including Cinderella, Alice in Wonderland, Peter Pan, and others.
Disney Legend Retta Scott is showcased in both locations. She joined Disney in 1938 to work on Bambi. You can also find her work in Dumbo, Wind in the Willows in The Adventures of Ichabod, and Mr. Toad and the Reluctant Dragon.
Other showcased artists include Barbara Wirth Baldwin and Ruthie Tompson.
Celebrate HER Story will continue through March and is promising more looks into the women of Disney history.
Walt Disney World New 500 Day Booking Window!
