Halloween may feel a little different this year but that isn’t stopping us from still counting down the minutes until the big night. And to help us (and you) get into the spooky and kooky spirit of the season, we’ve concocted a list of 10 great activities that the whole family can take part in for Halloween time, all with a touch of Disney and theme park flair.

1. Craft Yourself Some Fun

Just because there probably aren’t trick or treaters coming to your door this year, that doesn’t mean you can’t carve yourself a good ol’ Jack-o’-Lantern. This year, why not try a Vampire Mickey Jack-o’-Lantern design? He vants your candy!

2. Boogie Your Way to Disney Bucks (People Still Say “Boogie,” Right?)

You might score a sweet prize in The Disney Store Halloween Dance Party Contest! Those who enter have a chance to win one of four $1000 Disney Store gift cards. You can read more about the contest and how to enter here:

3. Eat Your Way Through Knott’s Seasonal Offerings

With the success of their previous Taste of Calico and Taste of Knott’s events, Knott’s Berry Farm has launched another food festival, Taste of Fall-O-Ween, in lieu of this year’s Knott’s Scary Farm. AND, costumes are allowed. Get the scoop on the menu along with info on the trick-or-treat trail for the kids, check out this post:

4. Take Part in a Drive-Through Event

if you were lucky, you already scored tickets to Freeform’s drive-thru Haunted House, “Halloween Road.” Tickets are sadly sold out but those of us who missed out can console ourselves with Freeform’s 31 Nights of Halloween TV programming. You can find the schedule here:

Even if you missed out on Freeform’s drive-through haunted house, there is another drive-through experience available for you LA folks. This drive-through family event is called Nights of Jack, which highlights huge pumpkin displays as well as depictions of beloved actors, sports stars, and animated characters.

5. Quoth the Raven, “Happy Halloween!”

Decorating is always a fun way to feel the spirit of a holiday. Fashion yourself a model of Maleficent’s pet raven (did you know his name is Diablo?), set him out of the dining table, and have him judge you when you don’t eat your vegetables.

6. Enjoy Classic Halloween Cartoons

Disney+ is home to many old-school Disney cartoons, many of which are pretty spooky. I would recommend cuddling up with a pumpkin spice latte and indulging in Lonesome Ghosts (a personal favorite of mine) along with The Adventures of Ichabod & Mr. Toad.

7. Explore Halloween (and Disneyland) Lore

Did you know about the Halloween Tree in Disneyland? It materializes in Frontierland during Halloween Time. The idea for this very special tree is based on a book by Ray Bradbury titled (you guessed it) The Halloween Tree. The story takes place on Halloween night and will definitely send chills down your spine.

During Halloween, the tree outside the Mercantile shop is decked out in pumpkins and orange lights to transform into the Halloween Tree

And here’s a real treat, an audio version of this classic tale. Makes for some wonderfully spooky nighttime storytelling:

8. Cook Up Sweet Treats

Decorating your own Mickey Halloween Donuts is pretty much the equivalent of making your own gingerbread house for Christmas. Before amateur bakers get too scared off at the idea of baking their own donuts, it should be noted the recipe uses cake mix as one of the base ingredients, taking the difficulty down a few pegs. Transform your donuts into Mickey Pumpkins, Ghosts, and Spiders and then devour them!

9. Set the Mood with Disney Tunes

Disney has quite a library of music and lots of it has to do with villains or other macabre stuff that fits the Halloween theme. There is now an official Disney Halloween playlist, which is accessible via all sorts of services, like Spotify and Apple Music. Whether you play this over the speaker in the kitchen while making some of those treats we mentioned previously or just through headphones while going on a walk through fall foliage, this playlist will have you feeling the spirit of Halloween in no time.

10. [For the Older Crowd] Explore Universal Orlando’s Haunted Houses

Earlier in the month, we confirmed that rather than host their traditional Halloween Horror Nights, Universal Orlando would instead concoct Haunted Houses for all guests during the day. MiceChat previewed them for you below. We are still waiting to hear if Universal will expand the event through the whole Halloween season. Here’s what a modified Halloween Horror Nights looks like:
