Premiering on Disney+ on September 25th, you’ll get an exclusive behind-the-scenes look into the daily operations from Disney’s animal care teams at Disney’s Animal Kingdom, The Seas at EPCOT and Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge. Check out the official trailer below:

Magic of Disney’s Animal Kingdom

Magic of Disney’s Animal Kingdom is produced by National Geographic and narrated by the beloved Josh Gad (Olaf from Frozen). You may not think of Olaf or Lefou for a documentary narration, but Josh did a stand-out job. He lends a more serious tone in this work, although you can still expect the occasional and appropriate quirk.

Resident veterinarian Dr. Dan is heavily featured in the series, along with Disney’s expansive animal care, research and conservation teams.

The series contains 8 episodes, featuring a broad selection of animal species that have unique stories to tell. Each episode contains plenty of tug-at-your-heartstrings and giggle-worthy moments. More importantly, you’ll gain a newfound appreciation for the animals and their care teams— who you may even recognize on your next visit to the parks! And there’s a big name associated with the project too, Joe Rohde the legendary Imagineer and lead designer of Disney’s Animal Kingdom theme park.

Given the title, backstage and show areas of the animal-centric theme park are the main focus here. Though, there are a few segments taking place at the Animal Kingdom Lodge and EPCOT. It’s important to note that Disney’s Animal Kingdom is home to the animals first, before a theme park for guests. Live animals are the basis of absolutely everything that happens at the park, from habitat and guest walkway designs to noise and light levels.

The new series offers an inside look observing animals in their environments, new park additions (including those darling baby animals!), veterinary care, surgeries and recovery, the relationship of trust between the animals and those that take care of them, and how passionate the animal care team truly is. For all 300+ species, big or small, these cast members pour their heart and soul into caring for the animals.

“When we say care, it’s so easy to turn that into a practice of care. But what you’re really going to see is the emotional act of care. The love these people have for the animals.” – Joe Rohde

Witness the powerful morning roars of Dakari the African lion, who likes to think he’s in charge… while Kinsey the lioness is the real ruler of the pride. But, when a mysterious lump is discovered on Kinsey, the team must overcome obstacles in order to transport the 300-pound cat to the veterinary treatment room.

I highly recommend any episode featuring the Lowland Western Gorillas – these guys are just so fascinating to watch! Extra special moments include a 39th birthday cake delivery for Gino, and the newest baby gorilla, Grace, spends time with child-development experts testing her motor skills.

It’s always interesting to learn about the inner-workings of Disney attractions, especially when it comes to the unpredictable journey that is Kilimanjaro Safaris.

There’s a sprinkling of factoids found within these episodes, including a ride-along of the “test truck”, a drive which commences each morning on the ride’s path, and preparing animals to meet their new neighbors on the Harambe Wildlife Reserve.
