The Force is strong with Disneyland’s Rise of the Resistance attraction, EVERYONE wants a ticket to ride, which can make it difficult to get a spot in line.

Beginning November 22, 2021, Disneyland will be switching from the early morning/noon scramble to book a boarding group to a standby queue (with occasional use of the virtual queue only when necessary). This is only a test, but likely to run until the system is changed once again with the addition of paid access to the attraction via an extra cost “Lightning Lane” system (similar to MaxPass).

Please read the article below for more information on how the standby queue will work:

Disneyland’s Rise of the Resistance to Test Standby Queue!

(Original Article below, please note that some information has changed, please read above)

To keep guests from having to wait hours in line, Disney created a virtual queuing system that they call a “boarding pass,” which prevents epic lines. So, getting your hands on a boarding pass will be the most important step to join the Resistance. Here’s all the info you need to read before heading to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge (4/21/21 – Note: this article has been updated with significant changes to the boarding procedures)

Rise of the Resistance Boarding Pass Guide

The first and most crucial step to making this process work is making sure you have downloaded the Disneyland App before arriving at the Resort. And also have an account set up and logged into the app. The boarding pass is effectively a virtual queue that uses the Disneyland App to let you know when it’s your turn to head to the attraction.

Important Boarding Group Information

  • There will be two times each day you can try for a boarding group, 7am and noon.
  • The 7am opportunity will allow you to shot for a boarding group from your home or hotel as long as you have a valid park ticket AND a park reservation for Disneyland the day you are making the boarding group selection.  The noon opportunity can be made from either Disneyland or California Adventure (if you have a valid park hopper ticket you can switch parks at 1pm).
  • These changes should really help folks who 1) miss the 7am opportunity, 2) aren’t able to obtain a spot in the 7am opportunity, or 3) have a park-hopper ticket which starts at DCA for the day. Since park-hoppers can hop after 1pm each day, that gives the folks starting their day at DCA a chance to ride Rise of the Resistance in the afternoon at Disneyland.

Obtaining a Rise of the Resistance Boarding Pass

  • Here’s how to enter the virtual queue: Find the “join boarding group” button in your Disneyland App You will then be assigned a boarding group number which will be used to indicate when you can return to the attraction.

Step 1: Open Disneyland App

Step 2: Navigate to options page (click the three lines button on the lower right corner of your app):

Rise of the Resistance Boarding Pass Tips

  • When a boarding group number is called, a push-notification will be sent to your phone letting you know that you have One hour to make your way to the attraction and ride the attraction.
  • Ensure push notifications are enabled so you receive your virtual queue call back details.
  • Be sure to check your phone often for the notification, and ensure that your phone isn’t on silent mode. This is a notification you don’t want to miss!
  • In addition to the Disneyland App, there are signboards around the park indicating which boarding groups are currently being called.
  • Boarding passes tend to be claimed within seconds once the selection process opens (7am or noon). Be ready and watch for the button to light up on your screen.

  • Keep in mind that there is no guarantee that guests will obtain a boarding pass, and boarding passes will be snatched up immediately.
  • PRO TIP: Even if you have a boarding group, it is possible that not all guests will make it onto the attraction. Guests with the highest boarding group numbers may be notified later in the day that it is unlikely that they will be able to experience the attraction. Set your expectations correctly so you aren’t disappointed.

  • Ensure that you have chosen one person to be the “boarding group leader” and have the rest of the party link their tickets to the boarding group leader’s Disneyland app before you attempt to schedule your boarding pass. This allows for the boarding group leader to get a boarding pass for everyone that has tickets linked to their app, and will make sure that the entire group gets to ride the attraction together.
  • If you don’t get a boarding group at 7am, you can try again at noon.

The castmembers of the Rise of the Resistance are all in character

  • Having a boarding pass is the ONLY way to experience the new attraction for the near future. There is no standby line or Fastpass, so being familiar with the process of obtaining a boarding pass is the best way to stay ahead of the curve.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Has the process changed since the attraction opened in 2020?

A: Yes! The old process of lining up at the front gate and then making a boarding pass reservation at the moment of park opening has been completely replaced by the process detailed above.

Q: Do I have to line up early in order to get obtain a boarding pass?

A: No. You can book the 7am reservation opportunity from your own home or hotel. The entire process is virtual. However, you must be inside either Disneyland or California Adventure to attempt the noon reservation opportunity.

Q: Will there be a stand-by line for Rise of the Resistance?

A: Nope! The only way to experience Rise of the Resistance in the foreseeable future is to secure a boarding pass for you and your party. There will be no standby or FastPass offerings at opening.

Q: Is Rise of the Resistance Too Extreme for Me?

A: Probably not. The attraction does require a lot of walking and standing. The queue, pre-show, and initial portions of the ride experience are all done walking and standing. The main ride portion of the attraction involves a somewhat slow and smooth trackless ride vehicle. While there is a very small drop and some simulator-style motion near the end of the attraction, it is brief and not extreme. We believe that this ride will be suitable for most guests who are able to stand and walk for 20 minutes or more. While the tone and story of the attraction will be scary for some guests, the ride systems are rather mild. (no loops, high speed, or large drops).

Q: Has Rise of the Resistance Been Altered Due to Health & Safety Guidelines?

A: Yes. In order to comply with state mandates that guests not queue inside of an attraction, and that attraction length not exceed 15 minutes, some changes to the Rise of the Resistance attraction have been made. However, we believe that the most important parts of the attraction, including the entire trackless ride portion remain for guests to enjoy.
